*** 2015 Prospect Tracker: Chiefs Interest / Visits / Work Outs ***

Draft Season is upon us. With the college season ending tomorrow, and the NFL wrapping up soon as well, our focus shifts to the most glorious time of year.

With a ton of picks this year, it will be even more exciting to follow.

4 years ago, this thread had a few guys that we selected in the draft. 3 years ago, this thread had 4 of our 8 draft picks. 2 years ago, we got Kelce and Fisher, and last year we snagged Murray, DAT, LD-T, and Kona Schwenke.

Here was our list from 2014:
Spoiler!

For those who are new, the way this operates is that we collectively monitor various social media sources, blogs, articles and reports for news of the Chiefs' interest in a certain player. When posted in this thread, I will update the OP to include the player. *Please provide the link to the article, the players name, position and team.

I am going to try to link to player profiles when they exist, courtesy of draftbreakdown.com. For some of the lesser-known guys, it may just be a random video or profile from their team website.

Re-visiting last year:

Aaron Murray - 3/24/14 - It was rumored that we had shown interest in him behind the scenes. Likely a leak from an agent.

He's a lot like Alex Smith in that he's mobile, very smart, takes care of the ball and has good leadership.

He's got a good personality that seems to energize people and his accuracy is there. I think if he's there in round 3 we take a long hard look at him.

Laurent Duvernay-Tardif - 3/27/14 - Held a work out for multiple NFL scouts

Kona Schwenke - 5/1/14 - Came to KC for a private workout

De'Anthony Thomas - 5/4/14 - Chiefs attended his Pro Day workout at Oregon

I've heard a lot of hype over Denzel Perryman, and admittedly, I haven't seen him play.

I just watched his game against Nebraska - again, only and first impression - but I was kinda disappointed.

+ He is very strong; his arms wrap the runner with a huge impact on his tackles, and he lifts the runner up.
+ Holds his ground on blocks
+ He takes great angles in pursuit to the outside

- He seems slow to react; does a lot of watching and waiting... and sort of dances around the pile while other guys are on the ground.
- While he takes great angles, it was usually because he was slow to get to the initial point of contact. It's like he's trying to play clean up man, instead of the first-to-arrive destroyer mentality that we see with DJ sometimes.

Takeaways - I need to watch more on him, because he has a ton of buzz and I just don't see it yet. I'm guessing he lays nasty hits occasionally, but he just seems to be out there hovering and protecting himself. Almost reminds me of DRC just standing around the pile instead of getting in on the tackles. I expected to see more nasty, more fight I guess.

Well according to an interview with Denzel Perryman, we didnt show a whole lot of interest. There was some interest there but we werent the most interested ones.

Dante84 01-31-2015 01:13 AM

This Devante Davis guy.

Pretty nice hands, but does not get separation and is therefore not a good pairing for Alex Smith.

Smith is so risk adverse that he won't even throw to Dwayne Bowe. He requires his receiver to get separation, either through straight line speed or quick cuts and runs.

After watching this video, I just don't see how this guy ever does anything with Smith at the helm. I say pass, as we are clearly committed to Smith.

<iframe width="450" height="420" src="http://www.draftbreakdown.com/video-embed/?clip=254191" frameborder="0" scrolling="no"></iframe>

Dante84 01-31-2015 01:33 AM

This Wes Saxton guy.

I like him. I watched the two tapes below, and had completely different takeaways from each.

The first video was from this past season. He's a big target, and makes me think that he'd fill the Fasano role in our offense opposite Kelce. He's there to move the chains, and Alex would likely check down to him pretty often.
2014:
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/2_wURGBdFjM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

This second video is completely different, and its from 2013. I watched this after the first video, and was expecting to see large guy run the 8 yard curls. But no. In this video, he looks like Vernon-****ing-Davis (against shitty talent, yes.). Super fast for a TE. If he's anything like Davis, then he's a fantastic fit for Alex, and it would be great to be able to run double TE sets with two speedsters in Kelce and Saxton... like Gronk and Hernandez a few years ago.

2013:

redshirt32 02-18-2015 12:04 AM

At the combine
However, every team is limited to interviewing just 60 player and have to submit a list in advance of the players they wish to interview. As well, each interview is limited to only 15 minutes meaning the players are under immense pressure as it may be the first and possibly only time they have direct contact with NFL coaches and general managers.

Any way of finding the list of players the chiefs selected to interview at the combine this year, is this list public ? Or do we have to wait for players to announce what teams they talked too?

Its usually pretty unstructured in terms of how the info trickles out, leaving us to track down tweets and reports in the wild.

From Terez Paylor's Live Blog today:

Quote:

Greetings from Lucas Oil Stadium, where the weeklong madness known as the annual NFL Combine has begun. I’ll have plenty of dispatches from the proceedings today, so be sure to check this space regularly for updates.

4:21 p.m. — Minnesota tight end Maxx Williams told me he has an interview set up with the Chiefs during the Combine. Williams is the eighth member of my All-Juice team, and a player whose skill set I can appreciate. I had the Chiefs selecting him 18th overall in my second mock draft. Others have him going in the second round and some have him going in the first but I’m bullish on his potential, and I came away impressed with him in my interview with him today. You can tell he’s passionate about football.

3:45 p.m. — Florida State right tackle Bobby Hart told me in passing that he interviewed with the Chiefs. I haven’t done much film work on him but he was a member of one of the best offensive lines in America. I also remember him struggling against Dee Ford in the Rose Bowl last season.

3:44 p.m. — Florida left tackle D.J. Humphries is a personable young man who came off well in his interview. He told me he has interviewed the Chiefs. He’s an interesting prospect; I need to do more film work on him but he has some athletic ability. The question about him will be his weight. He said he played last year at under 300 pounds, which won’t cut it in the NFL.
Related

3:16 p.m. — Offensive lineman Ali Marpet of Hobart said he has a formal interview set up with the Chiefs. Marpet is a strong interview; he has a definite presence. He went to a small college, but he preformed well at the Senior Bowl and more than held his own. He’s not terribly big, at 6-4, 307, so he projects as a center or guard, where his intelligence will help him. He’s an interesting mid-round prospect, in my opinion.

3:15 p.m. — Here’s a summary of what Chiefs coach Andy Reid had to say. (link)

2:28 p.m. — South Carolina guard A.J. Cann, one of my favorite players at his position in the draft, said he has interviewed with the Chiefs. Cann is squatty, at 6 feet 2 and 313 pounds, but he possesses good power at the point of attack and is very aware in pass pro, which the Chiefs could use. I don’t think he’s great in space — he seems like a better for for a gap/man blocking scheme — but the Chiefs could incorporate more of those concepts, especially since they have another power guard in last year’s starter on the right side, Zach Fulton.

1:59 p.m. — LSU offensive lineman La’El Collins told me he has interviewed with the Chiefs during the predraft process. Collins, who is listed at 6 feet 5 and 308 pounds, is projected to be a first-round pick due to his size and reputation as a run blocker. He played tackle and guard at LSU, two positions the Chiefs could use more depth at.

12:41 p.m. — New Denver coach Gary Kubiak said star quarterback Peyton Manning has not told him whether or not he’ll be playing in 2015.

“It’s been about a process that he and John (Elway) have been working through the course of the last month,” Kubiak said. “When I came in — think it will be a month tomorrow that I’ve been in town — I knew all along they were going to take some time, that Peyton was going to take some time away. ... I’ve had the chance to visit with (Peyton) quite often here in the last couple of weeks and it’s been very good, no football. We visited about a lot of things but no football. He’s very positive in his talking to me; he was very positive with John when he came to town last week. So we continue to move forward and I’ll let he and John work that out.”

Kubiak was then asked if he believes Manning, who battled a lower body injury the second half of last season, will be his quarterback in 2015.

“No doubt I want him to be,” Kubiak said. “I think all indications are that (through) everything that he said and through his conversations with John he feels good. He’s had his self-assessment or however you want to label that, and he feels good about moving forward. So, we’ll just continue with the process.”

12:01 p.m. — Arizona State offensive lineman Jamil Douglas said he interviewed with the Chiefs on Tuesday night. Douglas played guard and tackle in college but probably projects best as a guard due to his size (6-4, 300). He was named one of college football’s freakiest athletes before last season.

11:04 a.m. — New Bears coach John Fox offered a fairly tepid response to a question about whether quarterback Jay Cutler will be the guy going forward. “I don’t think there’s any question there’s ability and talent there,” Fox said. “But there’s a lot more than goes into it and we’re in the process of doing that.”

10:46 a.m. — San Francisco general manager Trent Baalke was asked about former 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh’s recent comments about his departure from the team. Harbaugh said it wasn’t his choice. “I have no response to that,” Baalke said. “Jim’s moved on, we’ve moved on ... Jim did a heck of a job, he’s a heck of a coach. He’s gone his direction, we’ve gone ours. We feel good about the direction we’re headed in and I’m sure he does as well … the important thing for us is just to move forward.”

10:40 a.m. — Chiefs special teams coach Dave Toub, who was believed to be one of several candidates for the Bears’ head coaching job this offseason, still has a big fan in Tampa Bay coach Lovie Smith, who was his boss for several years in Chicago. “I’m pulling for him because I think he deserves it,” Smith said. “Dave’s a good football coach. How do you move up? You do a great job at what you’re in charge of, and Dave has done that throughout his career. I know him personally, I know exactly what he brings to the table. In time, he’ll get that opportunity.”

▪ 10:20 a.m. — Tampa Bay coach Lovie Smith just praised former Chiefs and Jayhawks safety Bradley McDougald, saying he made some good strides this year. McDougald signed with the Bucs in December 2013 after being waived by the Chiefs.

▪ 10:10 a.m. — Seventy-four underclassmen entered this year’s NFL draft, a drop of 24 percent from the year before. That’s the first time that number has dropped in five years, and Pittsburgh general manager Kevin Colbert has a theory about what prompted this.

“I hope it’s the education of what happened in last year’s draft,” Colbert said. “Only 61 percent of those kids were drafted. I think a lot of kids that weren’t drafted regretted it because they ended up as free agents. They gave up a year of college.”

Colbert also said that changes to the league’s player advisory committee could also be having an effect.

“Now we only tell a player if he’s (projected to be) a first or second rounder,” Colbert said.

Prior to this year, the committee also told players if they were projected to go in the third round or fourth-through-sixth rounds.

▪ 9:48 a.m. — Pittsburgh general manager Kevin Colbert will speak to the media at 9 a.m. central. He will be the first of several personnel men and coaches to take questions in the media workroom. There’s a good chance he will be asked about receiver Randall Cobb, a pending free agent who would be a nice fit with the Chiefs, provided he hits the market.

By the way, Chiefs coach Andy Reid will speak to the media at 2:15 p.m.

**** yes!

Former Mizzou WR Dorial Green-Beckham has been a topic of conversation ever since ESPN's Mel Kiper's 2015 NFL mock draft sent DGB to the Kansas City Chiefs. The draft is obviously a ways away but we do have a little bit of news on DGB and the Chiefs. GM John Dorsey confirmed that the Chiefs plan to meet with DGB while in Indy.

"Physically we think he has all the gifts in the world," Dorsey said Thursday of DGB. "We've all admired him from the state of Missouri ... Now what people want to do is get a feel for him as a person and see where he is at this stage. That's what we're doing. We'll be meeting him in the next couple of days and I look forward to it."

Clearly, the physical traits are there. He certainly looks the part of one of the NFL's next great receivers. If there were no other question marks, we'd be talking about DGB as a high first round pick. But of course there are more questions ... a few incidents at Missouri eventually led him to having to leave the school. He transferred to Oklahoma where he did not play last year as he sat out per NCAA rules.

The thing with DGB, at least for me, is that the Chiefs really need to nail their first round pick this year. If they were in a different situation, I would be all about taking the risk on DGB. But with this team? It's a tough decision. His physical skills will make me always have some level of interest but the Chiefs need to do some due diligence here over the next couple of months and get a better feel for him.

They really need to nail their 1st round pick this year? Isn't that every ****ing team?

If anything....now is the time to take a player that has some risk with them. Tampa Bay isn't shying away from Winston and shouldn't they have to "nail" the 1st overall pick?

Not really sure a list is relevant since they'll meet with a shitload of prospects in the offseason at the senior bowl, shrine game, combine, invited workouts, etc.

Either way... whatever... they met with WR Devin Smith, OSU, at the Senior Bowl by the way. I'm sure a twitter junkie can find the link to that news.

That's the goal, to get some insight on the shit-ton.

Gives us an idea as to the types of players we check out and gives us a short list to mock off of.

We usually end up getting a small handful of these guys.

Terez, reporting from the combine:

Quote:

Greetings from Lucas Oil Stadium, where the weeklong madness known as the annual NFL Combine has begun. I’ll have plenty of dispatches from the proceedings today, so be sure to check this space regularly for updates.

3 p.m. — Utah outside linebacker Nate Orchard told me he has a formal interview scheduled with the Chiefs tonight. Orchard, who is listed at 6 feet 4 and 250 pounds, is one of my fastest risers in the draft. I really liked his speed off the edge at the Senior Bowl, which matched up with his impressive 18.5-sack senior season. I don’t think the Chiefs would take him in the first round (where I currently expect him to go), but I do like the talent and would sign off on the pick in the second round.

2:55 p.m. — Kentucky outside linebacker Alvin “Bud” Dupree just told me he recently had a formal interview with the Chiefs. I like Dupree enough as a prospect — he flashes the ability to play a little 4-3 end and 3-4 outside linebacker — but I’d currently put him behind Shane Ray, Dante Fowler, Randy Gregory and Nate Orchard. Again, I don’t think he’s an option with the 18th overall pick but you can never have enough pass rushers, so if he somehow fell to the second round I’d get the pick.

2:35 p.m. — Missouri offensive lineman Mitch Morse put up some impressive numbers after missing the Senior Bowl because of an injury.

11:22 a.m. — It’s been a fairly quiet afternoon in the media room here at the Combine, but things should start picking up here pretty soon. I do have one piece of news, however; I’m hearing the Chiefs have met with the representatives for safety Ron Parker, which isn’t a surprise. But I’m told Parker, a pending free agent, is still expected to ask for $6 million a season. The Chiefs won’t go to that number, but don’t freak out about the price; like any negotiation, there’s probably some middle ground to be found here.

11:57 a.m. — Miami offensive tackle Ereck Flowers said the Chiefs held a formal interview with him Thursday night. Flowers, who checks in at 6-6, 330 and pumped out 37 reps on the bench press, is a potential first-round pick who flashes some nastiness. If the Chiefs believe in his talent and want insurance for Eric Fisher and Donald Stephenson, he could be an option at No. 18.

3:03 p.m. — I’m hearing the Chiefs had an interview with Southern California outside linebacker J.R. Tavai on Wednesday. Tavai, who is listed at 6-2 and 250 pounds, finished the 2014 season with 53 tackles (13 1/2 for loss) and seven sacks and projects as a 3-4 outside linebacker or 4-3 defensive end in the NFL. He sounds like a guy who plays his tail off too, according to his NFL.com draft profile. Sounds like a guy the Chiefs would like.

Updates from Terez:

Quote:

Greetings from Lucas Oil Stadium, where the weeklong madness known as the annual NFL Combine is still underway. I’ll have plenty of dispatches from the proceedings today, so be sure to check this space regularly for updates.

4:47 p.m. — The Chiefs held a formal interview with Texas Christian inside linebacker Paul Dawson, he told me. Dawson isn’t very big (6-0, 235), but he’s one of the most instinctive linebackers in the draft. I currently have him as my No. 2 guy behind Eric Kendricks, and yes, it’s close. Turn on Dawson’s bowl tape against Ole Miss and that will tell you all you need to know about him.

2:32 p.m. — Utah cornerback Eric Rowe told a group of media that he has a formal interview set up with the Chiefs set up for Sunday night. He played press man, predominantly, at Utah and has experience at safety, as well.

1:23 p.m. — TCU safety Chris Hackett told me he has a formal interview set up with the Chiefs. I need to do more film work on him, but he has very good ball skills —seven picks in 2014 — and was a very good interview. He also says he got most of his interceptions playing deep in coverage and has experience in a one-high role. CBSSports.com projects him to be a second- or third-round pick.

12:28 p.m. — The Chiefs have a formal interview scheduled with Washington cornerback Marcus Peters. Peters has character concerns — he was kicked off the team during the season for what he repeatedly dubbed “miscommunication” during his media interview here — but he’s a press-man corner with aggressiveness and ball skills. I can’t see the Chiefs taking a first-round pick on him, just because of the background, but if he makes it to the second, they could perhaps afford to take the gamble.

11 a.m. — Former Mizzou receiver Dorial Green-Beckham showed off his athleticism Saturday by posting unofficial times of 4.49 and 4.50 in the 40-yard dash. At 6 feet 5, 237 pounds, those are strong times. Let’s chill on the Calvin Johnson comparisons, though; Johnson was more polished as a player coming out and he also ran a ridiculous 4.35 40-yard dash. But Green-Beckham is a talented guy, nonetheless. He looked smooth in position drills and caught the ball well. A good day for Green-Beckham.

10:55 a.m. — Amari Cooper of Alabama pretty much locked up a spot in the top 12 of the draft by running unofficial 40-yard dash times of 4.42 and 4.43. He also looked very fluid in position drills and showed far more polish than most of his competitors. He’s as good as advertised and remains my No. 1 receiver in the draft.

9:26 a.m. — A stray note from my interview with Chiefs general manager John Dorsey on Thursday: I asked him when — or if — the Chiefs will pick up their fifth-year option on defensive tackle Dontari Poe’s contract.

“It will probably be more towards training camp,” Dorsey said.

Poe has one year left on his original rookie deal, and will have a 2015 cap number of $3.6 million. The new collective bargaining agreement, however, allows teams to tack on another year to the contracts of first-round picks. For a player like Poe, who was taken 11th overall, his cap number in 2016 would be the average salary of players ranked 3rd-25th in salary for that position.

The period to exercise those options began on Dec. 29, 2014. The Chiefs have until May 3 to exercise the option on Poe. I addressed his contract situation, with cap analyst Joel Corry’s thoughts, in The Star’s mega offseason preview a month ago.

8:33 a.m. — This is the final day of the media portion of the event, but there are a number of local players who have still not made an appearance in the media room, including Kansas State’s Tyler Lockett, Kansas’ JaCorey Shepherd and Missouri’s Marcus Murphy and Shane Ray. I’ll try to have updates on all those players, plus the ones who have done formal interviews with the Chiefs, today.

The Chiefs are "very high on" East Carolina WR Justin Hardy, reports TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline.
Coming off a mediocre combine, and entering alongside an extremely strong WR class, Hardy may come at a discount in April. The 6-foot, 188-pounder posted a 9-foot-6 broad jump -- indicating his athletic explosion is lacking -- and a mediocre 4.56 forty. All of that said, Hardy's game is predicated on crisp routes and agility out of the slot, skills that Kansas City's offense could absolutely use. "Hardy’s route running skills, ability to separate in underneath coverage and dependable hands would fit a hole in the Chiefs offense," Pauline wrote. Feb 22 - 2:09 PM

Nightfyre 02-25-2015 03:29 PM

I am hoping the Chiefs are looking at Hardy as a guy they can target in rounds 3-4 rather than 1-2.

I bet he is still on the board in the 5th and we don't even look in his direction.

Dorsey drafts for upside and measurables.

Look at his history here.

He doesn't draft receivers that aren't fast and have subpar measurables.

Dante84 02-26-2015 09:23 PM

Also, he doesn't draft receivers here.

Nightfyre 02-26-2015 10:10 PM

Hardy crushed the 3 cone. He will be targeting receivers who can get separation, just like Hardy. Plus he has great hands.

kccrow 02-26-2015 10:30 PM

Dorsey comes from an organization that puts far more emphasis on the 3-cone when it comes to WRs than it does on the 40. I can't recall a recent GB receiver that ran any slower than 7.10 in the 3-cone. It might even be 7.05. I do recall the 40's being all over the board though, between about 4.45 and 4.60.

It seems Reid brought in more guys with speed, but still, 3-cone remains the most important thing for receivers. If you can't quickly separate, you're nothing in the NFL.

Nightfyre 02-27-2015 08:55 AM

Hardy: Big hands, Long arms, Quick out of breaks, Great Hands. Good blocker.

I am really struggling to see why he wouldn't be a perfect slot receiver for the offense we currently run.

Bowser 03-01-2015 11:58 AM

Round 1 - La'el Collins
Round 2 - Tyler Lockett
Round 3 - Justin Hardy

I would be great with that, and it fits the narrative of the rumors we are looking to completely rebuild our receiving corp.

Minnesota: Vikings GM praises Williams
Big draw: TE Maxx Williams
Don't forget: LB Damien Wilson
Notable attendees: Minnesota Vikings GM Rick Spielman and head coach Mike Zimmer; scouts from the 49ers, Ravens, Bills, Bengals, Browns, Broncos, Chargers, Chiefs, Dolphins, Falcons, Jaguars, Lions, Packers, Panthers, Patriots, Rams, Raiders, Seahawks, Steelers, and Titans; Atlanta Falcons DT Rashede Hageman also stopped by his alma mater.
The skinny: The latest in a long line of top-tier Gophers running backs, David Cobb, was not the star of the show Monday; he elected not to work out at the event while dealing with a lingering quad injury. As a result, Williams was the one most scouts had their eyes on. He elected to stand on his combine numbers and focus on drills, where he impressed those on hand, particularly Spielman. Wilson did the same, and that offered a chance for safety Cedric Thompson to turn heads by running an unofficial 40-yard dash in the 4.4 range with a 40.5 inch vertical jump.

This would be the 2nd time they have had a look at Max Williams, not sure about LB Damien Wilson, but we need help there and then the Safety Cedric Thompson also need depth there. RB Cobb ?

Big draw: OG Terrence Jones
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpXVz3rD4pU

Jones, who became a social media star last year when Troy officials posted a video of him squat-lifting 810 pounds with ease, was a bit disappointed with his bench press numbers. He lifted 225 pounds 25 times but was only credited with 22 due to improper form on three attempts.
“ I should (show them the video). Maybe that will make up for my bench numbers,” he said with a laugh.

WR /KR Chandler Worthy Troy

With drizzle falling on a slightly wet field at Veterans Memorial Stadium, Worthy ran unofficial times of 4.34 on two 40-yard dashes. One timer clocked Worthy running a 4.27 on the second 40, but Troy listed him as running 4.34 for each dash.

"I felt like I could have ran a lot faster," Worthy said. "I'll take a 4.3. That's not bad, either. A little short of 4.2 that I wanted, but I'm satisfied with what I got."

At last month's NFL combine, only JJ Nelson of UAB (4.28) and Phillip Dorsett of Miami (4.33) ran faster times at the receiver position than Worthy did Monday. Worthy said the NFL scouts told the players the weather could be taken in account as he admitted to slipping a couple of times on the turf.

Worthy thinks the scouts will shave 0.2 seconds "off a good amount of stuff."

The players started the pro day inside Troy's weight room and Worthy created an early buzz by posting a 39-1/2-inch vertical jump. He leaped 11 feet and a half inch on his board jump and had 17 bench reps of 225 pounds.

"I was blessed with big calves to be able to jump," said Worthy with a smile.

With scouts from the Kansas City Chiefs, San Diego Chargers, Oakland Raiders, Indianapolis Colts, Miami Dolphins, Denver Broncos, Houston Texans , New York Giants, St. Louis Rams, Seattle Seahawks and Jacksonville Jaguars present, Worthy seemed to improve his NFL future with Monday's effort.

You can rest assured that the Chiefs will draft a WR with 10 inch plus hands who remains to be determined, Hardy fits the Chiefs like a glove fully expect Hardy to be in Arrowhead next year.

Here is another WR they to a look at from Gardner Webb WR Kenny Cook.

Gardner Webb
The Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs, Tennessee Titans, Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Giants, Denver Broncos, Seattle Seahawks, Carolina Panthers and Cleveland Browns were on hand for pro day at Gardner Webb, which was run outside in the cold and damp weather.

Despite slippery conditions, receiver Kenny Cook timed 4.54 on his second 40 after slipping during his first attempt. Cook, who caught 64 receptions for 758 yards and five touchdowns last season, measured 6-0 3/8, 208 pounds, had a vertical leap of 32 inches and posted a broad jump of 10 feet. His arm measured 34.5 inches, while his hand was 10 3/8 inches, impressive for a receiver.

Almost 20 teams were on hand for pro day at Southern Miss, and their focus was primarily for one player: junior defensive lineman Rakeem Nunez-Roches. Standing on his Combine numbers, Nunez-Roches did positional drills for almost 40 minutes in a workout run by the Kansas City Chiefs. Scouts on hand were impressed and came away feeling the defensive lineman had definitely helped his draft stock. After the workout, Nunez-Roches spent a large amount of time with the Washington Redskins.

INTRIGUING PLAYER UNDER THE RADAR

Georgia cornerback Damian Swann measured 6-0, 189 pounds and posted a respectable 4.5 40-yard dash time, which tied for the ninth-best time among the 40-plus cornerbacks to run.

What piqued interest surrounded what Swann told ChiefsDigest.com on the feedback he received from team interviews during his Day Four media availability.

“Getting a lot being able to play a lot of different spots,” Swann said. “Playing in the nickel, playing on the corner, playing a little safety. I think that’s really what’s going to help me throughout this whole process is being able to play those different spots and get on the field.”

Swann played in a 3-4 base defense at Georgia and said he was comfortable in a press-man scheme. At the time of his media availability, Swann said the Chiefs weren’t among the teams he previously spoke to.

But that changed after his media session.

The Chiefs held an informal interview with Swann before the end of the Combine, a source familiar with the situation confirmed Monday night with ChiefsDigest.com.

One of the biggest difference between a formal and interview surrounds the time constraints.

Teams are allocated a 15-minute segment with a maximum of 60 players during a formal process. But an informal discussion allows more time with available players in an unstructured setting.

Other players confirmed by ChiefsDigest.com to have informal interviews with the Chiefs at the Combine are Florida State cornerback Ronald Darby and Louisville free safety Gerod Holliman.
