Yes.

He's been Green Bay's Director of College Scouting since 2000.

Players drafted under his watch include: Bubba Franks, Chad Clifton, Na'il Diggs, Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila (KGB), Javon Walker, Aaron Kampan, Nick Barnett, Aaron Rodgers, Greg Jennings, Jordy Nelson, Matt Flynn, Jermichael Finley, B.J. Raji, Clay Matthews, James Starks, Randall Cobb... just to name a few.

He was also Green Bay's Director of College Scouting from 1997-1998 when they drafted Ross Verba, Darren Sharper, Vonnie Holliday, and Matt Hasselbeck.

He has been a loyal and long-term employee of the Packers. And he soon could be getting his shot.

Packers director of operations John Dorsey is in demand, in at least two locations. Per a league source, the G.M. position in Kansas City will be his if he wants it — and if the Chiefs nail down a deal with coach Andy Reid.
That means Scott Pioli would be out, and that Reid would have significant influence over the hiring of a personnel executive who, as owner Clark Hunt said earlier this week, will report directly to the owner along with the head coach.

But Dorsey has other options. Dorsey will interview with the Jets as early as Friday; this confirms a report from CBSSports.com.

It’s unclear where Dorsey stands in relation to other candidates to succeed Mike Tannenbaum in New York. As we understand it, the Jets are casting a very wide net in search of someone who will welcome the opportunity to work with Rex Ryan.

Given the current status of the roster, they may need a bigger net.
Make this happen.

Dorsey was my #1 target at GM when we first starting talking about GM's a couple months ago. It would be a dream come true if he matches up with Reid. I would be fine with Heckert but no Dorsey tops the list period.

KC or NY, he isn't getting full control as the likes of Reid (?) and Ryan control things in the end.

I don't think full control is his M.O.

He had an opportunity to get that type of GM position in Indy last year and declined to even interview for the job.

Being GM while working with his good friend Andy Reid could be an attractive situation for him.

Ron Rivera, Jerry Richardson meeting on Saturday

The Panthers are putting together a list of general manager candidates, which now reportedly includes Titans vice president of player personnel Lake Dawson, but their head coach still hasn’t met with the team’s owner to talk about the 2012 season.

According to Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer, that meeting will take place on Saturday. Ron Rivera and owner Jerry Richardson are expected to sit down to discuss Rivera’s future with the team. Rivera’s status has been in question ever since the Panthers fired General Manager Marty Hurney, but his team did finish the year with five wins in the final six games and four straight at the end of the year to wind up with a better record than he had in 2011.

How much playing out the string at that pace will impact Richardson’s decision remains to be seen, but it does suggest that Rivera was still able to find a way to elicit a strong effort from his players. An even bigger question is whether Richardson would make keeping Rivera as the coach for at least one more year would become a precondition for any G.M. candidates if the owner does decide to keep Rivera around.

We should know more after the weekend about who will be on the sideline for the Panthers in 2013.

Just got off phone with #Packers GM Ted Thompson. Here's what he said on John Dorsey, who may be going to #Chiefs: http://sulia.com/c/green-bay-packers...source=twitter

“John’s a very talented guy. He could do whatever would be asked. Outside of that, I’m not going to critique, ‘This guy can do this, this guy can do that.’ If they’re working here (they can do the job) -- and especially in John’s case. He’s been trained by Ron, he’s worked with us, he has a lot of experience. And talent."

Asked how big of a loss it would be if Dorsey departed, Thompson replied, "I think the system is the system, and it’s built so you have people that are cross-trained. We do a lot of that. That’s the way we do our drat prep, that’s the way we do our free-agent prep. Everybody is involved in it, whether they’re on the college side or the pro side. But at the same time, while you’re very happen when guys get opportunities – and well-deserved opportuntiies – I think it’s natural to think, ‘It’d be nice if you could keep ‘em all together.’ It just doesn’t work out that way. That’s the way it’s supposed to work.”

bevischief 01-04-2013 11:22 AM

This would make this the biggest off season ever if this happens.

kcmaxwell 01-04-2013 12:04 PM

This day just keeps getting better and better! Good lord, i am fired up!

DaWolf 01-04-2013 12:23 PM

One thing to remember RE Dorsey: The Packers strongly believe that you stick with your draft board and take the BPA. That has been their philosophy. So don't be utterly shocked if Geno Smith isn't taken No 1 overall if they feel that spot is a stretch for QB (although I still expect his stock to rise in the offseason workouts).

That said, we may also have a better chance to trade down or trade back up into the later first round with Reid and Dorsey, because they would likely have better relationships in the GM community than Pioli did, who appeared to mainly be able to just deal with his former associates...
