Mansionmania Tournament: Round 5, Heat 2 (Final Four)

Mansionmania is near culmination with our final four contestants. You will choose among each pair of houses with the following assumptions:
  • The purchase price for you is $0.
  • All maintenance, utilities, property taxes, HOA fees, and cleaning is included.
  • You must live in the home for the rest of your life.
  • You can't travel more than 100 miles from home (via google maps drive time) other than 1 two-week vacation each year.
  • You get $250,000 per year as a living allowance
  • You get an additional living allowance at the cheaper home, which will be valued at 1% of any cost difference annually. I will note this amount in the poll.
  • You get the furnishings. If unfurnished, you get an allowance that will give you mid-grade furniture in every room.
  • You get any vehicles in the garage. But only the garage - nothing parked outside.

I encourage you to click on the maps in the listings to see the general location and neighborhood.

Also, I will only enter contestants if they have a sufficient number of photos to judge, as determined by me.

Your entries in this heat are:

The winner of this will be my vote for champ. Went Hawaii though.

I feel trite voting for Hawaii because it's got more unknowns than most, and it's not a perfect property for me. I still don't like that it's a number of buildings, so the biggest one may be 4,000 square feet or so. That's not a mansion.

But having said that, it's a really nice design and I would be very comfortable in that house.

I like the western USA, and I've heard great things about the Tahoe area. I haven't heard great things about Reno in general, though, and ... snow. There's going to be a lot of snow here.

Both houses have very close neighbors, but the Tahoe house has a neighbor right on top of it. That's just not right for a $47 million home. I like the Lake view, but it's a tie at best with the ocean view in Hawaii.

Neither of these would likely be in my Final Four if I was the only voter, but they're both very nice. Despite the small size, Hawaii is an easy winner for me here.

Nevada.

Hawaii. And spend the stipend on building a marine reserve. The fish off those rocks on that point would be my personal pets.

Or you could build a series of dykes and turn your property into a scale model of the Netherlands.

HI-oh

Both are great homes, I can imagine feeling isolated on an island longing for the mainland at times, but I'd risk it. Aloha.

Hawaii all the way. If I'm restricted to 100 mile radius, it may as well be paradise in every direction.

RollChiefsRoll 12-01-2021 11:34 PM

Come on, bro. Look at that Hawaii house.

When people think Hawaii, they think this.

What they don't realize is that the Big Island doesn't have much of those. What it does have is a lot of this, especially right around where the house in this contest is located.

If you've been down in southern Missouri and seen the back roads in the Ozarks, you've basically been to the roads in the area around that home. Complete with trailers along side the road.

Is it nice right there? Sure, but leave that little area, and it's not that great.

Wonderful place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there.
