Forecast For Saturday is Wet and Cold

Hope the rain is over before kickoff. I can deal with snow. Rain and freezing rain, not so much...

From the KC Star today:

It’s still a little more than 100 hours until kickoff of Saturday afternoon’s AFC Divisional Playoff game between the Chiefs and Colts at Arrowhead Stadium.

Obviously, a lot can happen between now and then regarding the weather, but it never hurts to take an early look at what the conditions might be like for the game.

At this time, it seems that Saturday could be chilly and wet at Arrowhead. I looked at what two national weather forecasters and four local meteorologists are saying could happen. They all seem to agree that precipitation is coming but not when it will happen:

The National Weather Service is calling for rain and snow on Friday night that will transition to snow. On Saturday, its forecast says, “Rain and snow likely, becoming all rain after noon, then gradually ending. Cloudy, with a high near 38. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.”

Why Not? 01-08-2019 02:02 PM

Despite what some think about dome teams, I think a wet or sloppy field is a disadvantage for us.

Mecca 01-08-2019 02:03 PM

Damn the Chargers/Pats game is suppose to be cold as **** with 3-5 inches of snow.

I love snow games. Can't really think of any that have happened at Arrowhead.

I think wet is more worrisome for db's trying to keep hill and Watkins underneath.

Prison Bitch 01-08-2019 02:09 PM

With the way they’ve been running lately and their line, and our shitty LB, wet field is a major advantage for them

We need sunny and 40 with no wind.

This. We need to be able to force them to air it out. They go ground pound and we’re ****ed.

**** 'em. I want it cold and miserable. Last time we had lovely weather for a Colts playoff game was 2004. No thank you.

I've been to over 50 games at Arrowhead over the last 30 years and that was by far the coldest one, by quite a bit... sucked balls, it had to be like kicking a peice of wood, but he still should have made 1 ****ing FG...:cuss:

Done teams have zero disadvantage in cold games. That’s a 80/90smyth when the NFL has a hole was a shit product of offenses.

Think 13 degrees at game time but temps dropped, so you might be right. It was the COLDEST game I've ever attended, much colder than Pitt a few years ago. Temps really didnt bother me at first, but I got colder and colder with each missed FG. By the time we lost, I was FREEZING MY AZZZZ OFF. It was a completely MISERABLE experience :cuss:

I was at a Donx game at Arrowhead where the temperature was about 10 degrees. I really didn't even think about it. We won 20-7. My hate kept me warm.

Although '95 was the coldest I remember there was also a Browns game where it was like 34 and rained the entire game, miserable was an understatement.

Just like the Jags game, right?

Oxford 01-08-2019 03:11 PM

Springfield is 180 miles south, we are supposed to get 3-5" Fri eve - Sal, with rain on Saturday.

From that I'd say the storm is tracking Arkansas into Tennessee.
So I'd say drier and colder in KC

wazu 01-08-2019 03:18 PM

Lezak seems to be leaning that we’ll be okay. Snow early but light snow at worst during game.

The Denver game that was referenced was cold too. I left Branson at 5:00 AM and by the time I got to my tailgate, my gallon jug of water that I had in the tailgate was frozen solid. I didn't know that a gallon of water could freeze solid that fast.

InChiefsHeaven 01-08-2019 04:27 PM

I was at a Christmas Eve game in like 95 or 96, we were playing the Seahawks. It was cold. My wife had entered me in a contest to win tickets at KMart, and holy crap I won. We got an overnight stay at the Double Tree and "backstage passes" before the game. I got to meet Len in the booth, that was cool. But anyway, the game was fuggin' cold. Like in the 20's with wind. Wife (after about 7 hot chocolates) had to bow out...which meant I had to bow out. Chiefs won though. But I left before the 4th quarter.

Then December of 97 Went with my brother who is a Saints fan and our wives. His wife weighs like 90 pounds. It was ice rain the whole time. We left early cuz she was turning blue.

I now get tickets for games no later than November. **** that noise...

Beef Supreme 01-08-2019 04:39 PM

CupidStunt 01-08-2019 04:48 PM

I'm soooooo far past caring about weather. Whether it's outside or inside, warm or cold, wet or dry, just show up and win the ****ing game.

December 2004 game vs. Denver is the coldest I’ve ever been at Arrowhead. I literally couldn’t feel my feet at the end of the game. Dante Hall returned the opening kickoff for a TD and KC kicked Denver’s ass.

Yes. It was soul-zappingly cold.

The thing I’ll never forget is when Lin Elliott missed his third kick and the game was lost how I could hear a small section of celebrating Colts fans all together in the top bowl on the other side of the field (and two levels up). It was so cold and so quiet you could hear their cheers in the opposite corner two levels down.

That is - always - the worst part of leaving a Chiefs playoff game on the wrong side. Hearing the minority fans like they're on the loudspeaker at a funeral and watching the opposing team like they're in a Chuckie-Cheese-bouncy-house dance onto the field.

Make. It. Stop.

Why can't people just be logical about the entire situation? I discuss good stuff, I discuss bad stuff. What is the ****ing problem?

It's not a revelation that bad weather hurts throwing offenses and speed teams and helps power teams.

I believe that we are better than the colts at throwing the ball and we are the faster team. I believe that the colts are better at power football. That means bad weather helps the colts. Why is this being negative?

People are babies, jeez.

Weather for Chiefs-Colts Game

Weather has shifted to 60% of Snow. 1-3 inches Friday night and up to a inch on Saturday.

Will that effect the crowd turnout?

I hope it clears out, we need Patrick to air the ball out in clear weather.

Hoping this is the case

chiefzilla1501 01-09-2019 09:37 AM

Mahomes has done fine in rain and cold. As long as he's not too impacted grip wise it's probably a huge advantage for us. Wind would actually be really nice. Luck did fine on a cold windy day in Houston a few months back but that's the closest he's had to a weather game. In rain on a warm day he looked like shit against Jacksonville. I'm still wondering how much his arm strength can handle cutting this type of wind.
