Whiff.

Much like what happens when hitters face Jim Johnson.

IMO the plan to bring back Carp as a starter is a pipe dream. They should condition him as long relief and spot starter. He was pretty strong through 2 innings then hit a wall in his last start. You can't expect a guy who hasn't pitched in the last 2 seasons to come out and pitch more than 2 innings of strong ball. Work him up to it. He's not going to be able to come out every fifth day and throw even five innings. As a starter he will burn the bullpen. He could be a starter in the postseason. You expect to burn your staff there.

Yeah, we and the Cardinals want to believe but that banged up body of Carp cant just be willed by Carp to do what he wants it to do. :shake:

But his presence on the team especially in the playoffs if he can give us an inning or two has a value way beyond a couple of innings of pitching.

You know its funny that Baseball tonight said the same thing last night. His time is almost up and they should just put Rosenthal in there before the meltdown.

Only one blown save all year and noone thinks its going to last. He is going off the Boggs/Franklin/Izzy mental disaster cliff soon.

He's blown two. While he has been shaky at times, he's done absolutely nothing to warrant being moved out of the closer role yet.

Mozeliak has to have that idea in the back of his mind. Mujica doesn't have to know he's on notice, but he should be in Mo's mind.

I'm not advocating immediately pulling him off the closer job. But, in no way should he be given as much rope to hang himself and the Cardinals as they granted Boggs and Franklin. The "closer" role is probably the most performance based job on the team. There is no 0-27 slump space to work yourself out of as a "closer".

Regarding Carp: He has a full month, essentially a full spring training. Give him time to see if he can build the strength up in his arm. If he can't, then try him as a reliever. But don't panic yet.
