Fred Broski RULES
This guy was one of my favorites growing up. He was one of two weather guys on KC television for YEARS -the other being Dan Henry on WDAF 4. Broski did Bowling for Dollars too.
Gary Lezak sits down for a visit with Fred, now retired from KC television for 16 years. Cheryl Jones was another popular weather anchor on KMBC 9 back in the 1980s, because she was a stone cold fox with a profile that would make you want to chew through your TV set. Story is here: http://www.kshb.com/weather/weather-...in-kansas-city |
Wait, so his real name is Broski. For real?

Bob Dole had completely forgotten about Bowling for Dollars.

Loved Dan. He really made the weather interesting.

His Daughter was on KCMO for a bit doing weather. She was terrible with a capitol T. Figure they threw her a bone because Fred for so many years.
If I remember right Fred Broski's Dad owned Broski Brothers Fence in KC. |
I vaguely can remember Bowling for Dollars.
Anyone else remember that horse racing thing tied in with Milgrims? I must have been 7 or 8 but I can still remember that. Posted via Mobile Device |
He used to be the host for an amateur bowling tournament that benefitted Muscular Dystrophy every year. That was so much fun.....you could win everything from 2 liters of soda, boxes of Twinkies, grocery certificates and other prizes for striking in certain frames. Plus if you got a Turkey (3 strikes in a row) you got a special prize.
Each round the top certain number of bowlers would advance to the next round. The top 5 would appear appear on the Finals Show. In the finals Bowler #5 would face #4 and the winner would advance to play #3. The winner of that would face #2 and the winner there would face off with #1 to take home the prize, which if I remember was $2500. In the tourney in 1984 I entered the final round in the #3 spot but, because I worked for King Louie at the time (who was a sponsor of the event too) I couldn't participate in the Finals. Instead I got to take home the 5th place prize....which I used to go on a nice vacation that summer with my wife. |
Don Woods in Tulsa was pretty great back in the day, too.

Pin Busters anyone
And also on Channel 9 was a kids version of Bowling for Dollars called 'Pin Busters'. I don't remember who hosted that show but I believe it was a second rate sportscaster from Channel 9.
