I recommend the Ruger and Fraz probably would too.

They shoot great and aren't pricey.

He paid 300 new, I paid 280 used.

This.

And I'm sure you were taught the correct way to handle guns. People that didn't grow up with them can be dangerous as hell.

Ruger P95 is the pistol I was talking about earlier. Wonderful gun. And for what you'd pay for just the Glock, you could get a Ruger fully tricked out with a top of the line laser sight and holster. See below.

Safety is part of it for sure, but probably the bigger reason I have guns just because I love them! Hell I'd have even more if it weren't such an expensive hobby.

Thanks that sounds like the right fit for me. So I should expect to pay right around the $300 range for a P95?

I recommend you buy the glock, and then fall in love with the Ruger. Such blinding love that you give the glock to me.

Personal defense has never been my reasoning for owning firearms. I just love to shoot. Whether it's hunting or just plinking at some tin cans. Started at the age of 6 with a trusty Daisy BB gun and about 3 square miles of Kansas wilderness. And I've just grown my collection since then. I can't say that any gun I've bought has been for the sole purpose of home defense. I've got several that would work well for it if need be, but they weren't bought for that reason.

That's exactly what Bud's is selling them for.

The stainless is about $20 more, but I didn't give a shit about that.

I do highly recommend you get the Model 3 grip. Well worth the $11.

If you buddy can line up, or rent, several different guns for you to try would be your best bet. Most pistols from major manufacturers are safe and reliable. Next to cost, comfort and feel are the most important considerations. Frazod loves his Ruger, the width, grip size, etc. might make it a miserable experience for me to shoot. You never know for sure until you take it for a test drive.

AK's are a blast to shoot. You can pay a little or a lot for them. My best friend has an SKS, and his particular model takes stripper clips (instead of a magazine) which sucks shit. Of course, my best friend is notoriously cheap.

Personally I have an entry-level AR that I paid about $700 for (DMPS Panther Oracle). Very accurate, fun as hell to shoot. Bud's has a deal on them right now.

But I must say, I LOVE my new Ruger. Love it. Ran a couple of hundred rounds through it this afternoon. Very accurate, fun to shoot, light recoil. Magazines easy to load (actually easier to load manually than with the loader thing that came with it). The $10 rubber slip-on grip I added took care of all the grip issues - feels great in my hand. Trigger does have a bit of play, but once I got used to it it was no big deal. Easy to stage shots. Breaks down quickly and easily.

For $300 (price at Buds and what I paid locally), you can't go wrong with this bad boy, IMO. :thumb:

How difficult was the Veridian to set up? Did you notice any drift after putting a few rounds through the pistol?

The last pistol I had with a laser was one of the first gen red lasers hard mounted on a Glock 23 (pre rail days). I could get it dialed in and within half a magazine it was off...way off. I'm thinking about trying the laser route on my home gun if the newer lasers are worth the money.

Well, let's put it this way - I was able to do it myself with no problems. :D I am not exactly mechanically inclined.

And I didn't notice any drift at all. It is very securely mounted. Best part about the one I got would have to be the strobe feature. That will definitely ruin anybody's shit that you point it at.

I'm just talking about my particular model. I can't imagine there's much difference between it and the others. About two months ago they were selling Oracles for around $600. Which kind of annoyed me.

P.S. One of the dudes at CDNN said they will no longer carry the CMMG one as CMMG went exclusive with RSR as their distributor. The other guy (when I called back) said he hasn't heard anything like that and thought they would have the CMMGs back in stock in 3 weeks or so. So you might want to look at that.

If you are looking for a CMMG piece and can get to Columbia there is a place called Black Rifle that is a factory direct distributor. They don't have much of a website as far as looking at inventory but they usually have plenty of stock when I have gone there.

Haven't got that far yet. They've certainly got some interesting stuff on their website, though. Damn.

FN Herstal 45 acp, 14 round magazine. American made. Their website claims they provide 70% of the sidearms to the military. Looks pretty bad ass, and if I'm willing to drop $400, what's an extra $100?

Bump. No luck with my Air Force buddy - his issued sidearm is a Beretta.

All the reviews I've found on this are very positive.

LOL, no. I ordered it on Saturday. I'm sure it'll be a little while. How long does CDNN take to ship guns anyway?
