Really? Think about how many Chiefs fans have positive things to say about Cassel.

One or two on here, but manly as a joke. I've read several positive comments about Daboll. In 20 comments I'd expect to find one positive about Cassel.

I'm not talking about CP. I'm talking about ALL Chiefs fans.

Chiefs Have A Tough Sell With Brian Daboll

The Kansas City Chiefs have a little work to do to convince the fan base that Brian Daboll is a good hire for their offensive coordinator position. Because, judging by our approval poll on Daboll's hire, not many fans are thrilled with the decision.

Coming up on 3,000 votes, only 19 percent of our readers approved of the move to hire Daboll. Almost double that number, 37 percent, said they did not approve of the hire. And 42 percent said they were unsure.

I can completely understand why fans wouldn't be a fan of this move. Going by the information we have -- the stats of the offenses that Daboll has coordinated -- it's hard to make a lot of sense with this hire. He coordinated two offenses in Cleveland that ranked in the bottom four of the league and his Miami Dolphins stint was poor in the first half of the season (yet pretty solid in the second half).

The perception of this hire is that the Chiefs simply reached into the old pile of New England Patriots folks. I'm not sure if that's reality or not but that's absolutely what it looks like. And fans are kinda tired of the Patriots connection considering it has not resulted in a team that wins like the Patriots.

We'll have some commentary from our Dolphins blog coming up later today. They feel this is a good hire for the Chiefs so not all is lost.

Me thinks they are going to have a tougher sell on keeping Matt Cassel in the starting role.

Sure, I guess all the comments could be Dolphin true fans, I don't know. They're saying positive things and it makes me feel better, that's all.

I'm wondering one thing.

Before the season.....the Dolphins wanted to trade for Orton and that fell through. I wonder how much of that was Sparano and how much of that was Daboll.

I think if he is hired, and there is a press conference with Daboll, that one of our media guys should ask that very question.

2 things Daboll has to do to win me over, if he is in fact hired.

1) TRULY make it a QB competition and let Pioli know that the only way he takes the job is if he is allowed to run the offense with or without Cassel as the teams starter.

2) help us bring Soliai to KC...along with any other scheme change players they jettison that we can use as depth. Their defense was a carbon copy of ours and if they are switching to a 4-3, they will have pieces they don't need anymore. We do.

I'll be satisfied if he can just accomplish item #1.

How does Daboll have say on who he would like on defensive side of the ball?

He won't.

But he'd be a familiar face to Solai that could sell the Chiefs.

i could be wrong but i'm thinking if he presents this to Pioli, he will not be hired.

I haven't looked it up yet, but does Miami have any guys that are either FAs coming off their d or are going into the last year of their current deal that we would likely have an eye on for a trade for a late rounder?

I'll look it up when I get home if nobody has by then, but it's worth keeping an eye on.

There's a legitimate chance that Daboll and Soliai have never even had a real conversation. I'm sure if Pioli likes the guy he could use Daboll to sell him on it, but other than that I'm not sure Daboll's going to get us anyone. I have the feeling Daboll's going to work with whoever Pioli gets him.
