Chiefs Sign Eddie Drummond
http://chiefs.scout.com/2/672221.html
By C.E. Wendler Warpaint Illustrated Columnist Posted Aug 26, 2007 Warpaint Illustrated has learned that the Kansas City Chiefs have signed wide receiver/kick returner Eddie Drummond. He is the leading candidate to return kicks for the team this season. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers worked out Drummond earlier last week, but he turned down a better offer to play in Kansas City, signing a two-year contract. Drummond, who spent the last five seasons with the Detroit Lions, made the Pro Bowl in 2004 following a season in which he returned two kickoffs and two punts for touchdowns. He is one of only three players in NFL history to accomplish that feat, along with former Chief Dante Hall and Bears kick returner Devin Hester. In five years Drummond has six total return touchdowns, two on kickoffs and four on punts. For his career he averages 9.8 yards per punt return and 23.6 yards per kickoff return, with highs of 13.2 on punts and 26.6 on kickoffs (both in 2004). Last season he averaged 26 yards per kickoff return, but just 7.7 yards on punt returns. With the departure of Hall, the Chiefs have been looking for a replacement returner all offseason. Drummond appears to fit the bill, and may make it tough for rookie Ean Randolph to make the 53-man roster. No word on the financial terms of Drummond’s contract. Stay tuned to Warpaint Illustrated for more news on this signing. |
the fact that you go to the WPI forum should have you glowing red in the rep dept.

Its bad enough we have GC pimping that site...

I thought Ean Randolph was doing good on punt returns. Of course, I didn't really see him do much otherwise.

Hopefully he can return to his old form. If he can then it is a great signing.

I love this signing.
He's just as good as Dante now, this didn't cost draft picks, just cash. He should help with field position tremendously. Randolph is gone. |

when will the CHiefs develop thier own kick returner
and not have to pick up somone else's trash |

Why did the Lions cut him?
I like this signing. |

They have 5 WRs - Williams, Calvin, Furrey, McDonald and Troy Walter and they will use Walter and McDonald as their returners. With this signing, I imagine Kennison, Bowe, Parker, Webb, Hannon and Drummond will be our receivers. We really need the extra field position so this is a good signing. |
Wow, nice pickup. I liked Randolph, but Drummond's a proven commodity.

damn i was kinda hoping randolf got a chance to be on the team the kid is gonna be solid
|
So we get another has been returner?
|
Dante Hall was/is better.
Drummond is small, often injured, and can't return punts that well. Even when he was a Pro Bowler, Hall was better. Having said that, it's a good signing because he's better than anyone else on the Chiefs roster that has tried to return kicks/punts this offseason. To me, this looks like a "quick fix" to a plan that's gone wrong since trading Dante Hall. :shake: |
can he catch?

Can't return punts that well? He had over 10 yards a return last year. |
Does this seal Phinisee's fate as well?

he just turned town TB to get on HBO. way better deal. |
Things are looking like shit. We did not need this signing. And once again today I'm taking another disappointment hit from King Carl himself.

Jesus, are Chiefs fans so myopic that any news is bad news? Drummond is worlds better than anyone on our roster right now returning kicks, and probably if not as good as Dante is today, he's at least in the same neighborhood.

I'll take my chances with someone who is young enough, 27, and has produced in this league over ifs and maybes when it comes to a return man. I understand about bitching about Croyle, but the amount of whining/that time of the month on here is getting out of hand. Some of you need to invest in Kotex and Kleenex. |
Thanks for standing in for GC, Hootie. He PM'd you didn't he?

yay better field position! |
Great signing, we needed a return man. I see no reason to bitch about this at all, 27 and has done a good job. Dante was a little bitch that wined about dorm rooms at training camp and all he did the past few years is run backwards and try to juke rather than return.
|
He's no Bobby Sippio.
|
Love this move. Wonder who gets pushed out?

but if you arent, it seems like you're implying that we havent bred our own kick returners. we've somewhat specialize in them recently |
Chiefs already have listed him as the #1 KR and PR on their depth chart.
|
Drummond is no Samie Parker.

I like the move no one really stepped it up and this kid is proven we need all the help we can get on O.

I like it. With the type of game we plan on trying to play, field position is going to be important...
