Could be a precursor to a huge really cool move.

HAN and energy management are potentially going to be huge. Kind of icky that now Google has their fingers in it.

I've got a Nest and Protect and like them a lot.
This is great news in my opinion, because the only thing that has been missing from it has been lack of enhanced customization.

Heck- they showed a Nest thermostat on an episode of How I Met Your Mother, that had a different font type than the one it has and people got super excited about it over the Internet and then pissed when it turned out not to be a feature available in there next update.

They clearly know that there's a huge interest for customized options, but at this point I don't think they had the support, staff, and resources to devote time to this. With Google, the enhancements, and everything else will get the full treatment for sure!

The Protect is a great product too.

Google has become Skynet. The destroyer of worlds.

When we bought our house, the previous owners had already signed up for programmable thermostats through KCPL.

I hate them. Especially during the summer, as they have built in time buffers that shut my AC down after a certain period of time (it's limited to 20 minutes on, then must stay off for 30 minutes).

The idea of a wired household sounds cool, but not if it includes the power company being able to place buffers on your usage that you can't affect.

Nest Isn't like that.
Not unless you want it to be.
Some Power companies have agreements with Nest but you have to Opt IN to do the buffering like you're talking about.

My power company has no such agreement

You say that like they haven't mostly done it already.

LOL.

Some lucky ass broker ****ed up and bought the wrong stock, realized it after it had went up and looks like a ****ing genius when he realizes his mistake.

That's more luck in one day than the summation of all the luck in my lifetime.

Google will soon be running the world. We'll have elections for president via google in our lifetimes. You watch.

I have a nest thermostat and love it. Would like to get one of the smoke alarms too. Surprised they didn't sell to apple. Their UI is apple-ish and the founders are former apple employees
