Yup, great job by "Salvatore".

Weirdly his 2014 ALDS winning call is one of the most iconic of his career. I feel like he vastly exceeded expectations by just having a few memorable/iconic calls during those postseason runs.

That call was great also. He let the noise/joy of the crowd do what his words couldn’t begin to convey; 29 years of waiting was over.

“Kansas City, you’ve got yourselves a World Series”.

Awesome Salvy! Down in MLB history. That will be a tough record to break going forward given the way catchers are used nowadays. Hopefully he can get to 50!

BTW, Ryan’s TV call of the home run sucked. He sounded like a younger version of a checked out Denny Mathews. No excitement at all and didn’t even mention it to almost after the fact.

Would like to hear the radio call of the homerun. Bet that one was better.

I turned it over to the game just in time. I got to hear 45 and now 46. Historic achievement. :thumb:

Interesting. I really enjoyed that call. I listened to that entire game on the radio. Ryan, I felt, did a great job painting a great picture of how the Royals arrived at that point in November 2015 by going all the way back to the 2014 wild card game.

Down four in the 8th “and I thought it was over and was trying to find something positive about the season ending…but some guys….right down there.. had a different story in mind”.

“Strike three called…. ITS OVER.., THEY’VE DONE IT….THE ROYALS ARE WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS”!!!! The world champion Kansas City Royals”!!!

I guess maybe it was better in context. I've only heard it on its own and thought it was weak.

Thom Brennans final call was better

Yeah, WTF? Just saw the replay on mlb.com and it was a complete afterthought.

I once heard him defend the lack of excitement with what I feel like is a completely illogical "if I get excited about one thing, where does it end?".... I guess if he was suddenly excited about their first WS in 30 years, some people would have said it wasn't genuine Matthews or something, but it certainly seems like he could have picked a few moments in those two playoff runs to raise his voice a bit like he gave a shit.

98% of the time Denny is great. But he is terrible at capitalizing and announcing big, exciting moments. Just terrible at it. He's said before he just doesn't want to do it. He's just kind of a boring guy.

Denny can be dry but I thought he nailed the calls on the two ALCS winners. His call in 15 was great. He got about as excited as he ever gets. I think if he went too wild it would just sound fake, that's not him.

The Denny Matthews/Fred White combo of my youth may have been the quietest broadcaster pair in sports history.

But it's the same voice I heard when I was a kid listening to games as I went to sleep...and it's kind of cool still hearing that voice all these years later.
