Hochevar trade coming?
|
So, what's the worst possible scenario?

uhh... we buy out both of Hoch's arbitration years at $9MM/2, with one of those mutual options DM loves for a 3rd year. We can't be that stupid, though. |
There's no chance we offer a contract at this point, right? Kinda late in the day for that, now. It seems obvious to me that DM is calling everyone in baseball to get Luke out of here.
If there's no deal, just cut him. Please. |
Why would we cut him when he's just about to turn the corner and put it all together?

Do the right thing, Dayton. I know you love this dog, but take Old Yeller behind the shed and shoot him.

Sign/trade for another quality* pitcher, let Myers allow Frenchy to retire after his stellar career, hope Cain stays healthy and we only would gave one hole on the team. 2nd base. * by quality I'm not talking about what the royals have tried to feed us the last couple years. I would be happy with the gil meche we got when we signed him. Think of this team with meche and greinke... Posted via Mobile Device |

Hard to believe no GM in baseball thinks he can fix Hochevar. Only takes one.

I shouldn't even say this, but I think he gets non-tendered.
They leaked that it was virtually certain that they wouldn't do that to increase trade interest. They're obviously shopping him for anything, but when push comes to shove, in light of salary constraints and offers to guys like Dempster, I get the idea his days in KC are done. I hope. |

There's less than 2.5 hours left. Un-****ing-real. Why so late with no announcement, I was certain I'd be pissed and raging, or uncorking a wine I bought for the possibility of Hoch getting cut by now.
Screw it, I'm not waiting, gonna start drinking now. |

non tender and lets move on.

If you haven't made a prediction yet, call your shot now. Will Luke Hochevar be non-tendered, traded, or offered a contract to pitch for the Royals in 2013?

If he reached his peak, he'd still be a #3 because of the lack of an out pitch, and I've heard/seen countless bullshit claims about his breaking pitches, 2 and 3. They're both marginal at best.
|
Dave Duncan isn't there anymore. He would've been a perfect Dave Duncan pitcher. But someone will pick him up if he's cut. He has good stuff and his peripherals are better than his results. That's why DM is Pioli-crazy about keeping him. He doesn't want to some other team to figure him out and make DM look like an idiot.

and yes, I had the severe misfortune over the last 3 years of picking an inordinately high number of games to attend where he ended up pitching. If he has a dog, I want it gone, too.

I just learned that LHP John Lannan was non-tendered by the #Nats. #MLB Not a bad pitcher |
C'mon DM, non-tender Hoch. All the cool GM's are doin' it. You aren't square, are you?

Glass: Dayton, have you decided on what to do with Hochevar?
DM: No sir, I'm trying to call other teams, but none of them are interested. All of them keep saying that he's not worth anything more than an age 50+ hooker. I have no idea what they mean...... Glass: Well, you gotta make a decision within the next hour or so. Do you still think he has the talent? DM: I absolutely do! He's a #1 pick for a reason! I just don't understand why teams won't offer. It's not like he's been all that bad, and he has potential! Glass: Well, I don't know nothing about baseball, so it's all in your hands. Just don't blow too much of my money if you offer a contract. DM: Don't worry, sir, I'll make sure Hochevar's potential isn't wasted, whether it's here or somewhere else! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Could anyone else actually imagine this conversation? |

In all seriousness I really believe something is being worked on with another team for a trade. If all trade possibilitys were dead we'd have either a non tender or a contract. Will a trade happen? Probably not but you use the time you have to try everything. I'm "sure" the decision was made long before now to non tender him if a trade deal can't be made. But until the time has passed you try. Something has to be going on or we'd have known by now.

50 minutes left.
For ****'s sake, how hard is it to cut this pitcher? |

Game of chicken. Other teams think DM's bluffing about not cutting him. DM might as well wait till the digital red timer reads 0:00 before letting the ax fall, just in case someone calls at the last minute and says, "OK, a bag of Skittles for Hochevar."

He hasn't developed yet, give him time!
