Your OC was fail at Texas kinda surprised they hired him.

He wasn't really that bad. He looked great when they had talent and he looked mediocre when they didn't. That's part of being at UT, just ask Mack Brown.

The bigger issue to me is that, so far, the offense he's calling here looks nothing like the one he called at UT. In fact, it looks almost IDENTICAL to Ken O'Keefe's offense.

Part of that could be him adjusting to the players that are already here, though.

All in all, they look like every Kirk Ferentz team has looked when they have injuries/inexperience in the offensive and defensive lines. Those two units make the whole team go and always have. They're boring.

What you judge is how he handles everything. Can he stay within himself and not make things worse.

A Great QB can still make good decisions, that's exactly right. He might not be able to beat LSU, but he certainly can show his capabilities as a QB against a stingy Defense.
