Depends. Contracts almost always allow people to be fired for cause. My guess is they already have an agreement in place that's somewhere between "he gets his full contract amount" and "he gets nothing."

This is a 'protecting the shield' firing. It's not just the Smith stuff, it's not just the Goodell stuff, it's not just the homophobic or mysognistic stuff - it's the totality of it all. The reveal hurts the NFL's brand. This isn't strictly a cancel culture issue - this is an economic decision.

If you work in an industry and you're talking shit about your boss, your employees, your suppliers, etc, and all of that becomes public, you better believe your employment might become untenable.
