Hammock Parties 10-11-2021 10:04 AM

Let's talk about the Washington Football Team

It is time to get right and get back to .500.

In order to do so we have to:

1. Stop Taylor Heinicke, who is playing surprisingly well.

2. Boatrace an absolutely dreadful Washington defense.

Heinicke's mobility could be an issue for us. But he is not going to make throws like Allen made last night.

We need to block Montez Sweat, who is an extremely fast pass rusher for Washington (4.4 40 yard dash at 262 lbs). He scares me a little if he lines up against Niang.

I think the Chiefs offense gets right against a pretty bad defense and we win 35-24 or so. This isn't a good team.

ModSocks 10-11-2021 10:06 AM

Taylor Heinicke must be salivating after watching that shit show last night.

I'm sure Mahomes will get right though at least.

Hammock Parties 10-11-2021 10:08 AM

I think our corners match up well against their receivers. They don't have any big-time threats. McLaurin is a good receiver, can run routes well, but not a game breaker.

We are going to win this football game!

Why Not? 10-11-2021 10:08 AM

McKissic and Gibson are going to be a huge issue for our LB’s to cover. McLaurin may put up 200 yards. 45-38 final in our favor but only because we have a significant QB advantage. But I won’t be as shocked as many here will be if the Chiefs lose this game. There is no underestimating the depths to which the defense can plummet this team.

Hammock Parties 10-11-2021 10:09 AM

McLaurin is not putting up 200 on this D.

I think Spags can scheme up an inexperienced QB.

Easy 6 10-11-2021 10:10 AM

I hope you’re right. I’m shell shocked at how bad the defense is so nothing would surprise me at this point.

Hopefully we start seeing more snaps & impact from Gordon.

Lose any of the next 3 and you may be there. Washington and NYG because they're clearly inferior rosters. TN because that's ANOTHER tiebreaker lost to a potential AFC playoff team.

They've really burned up a lot of rope early in the season. It may take 11-6 to make the playoffs and that means they have to go 9-3 or better from here out. The margin for error has tightened up in a big, big way.

Megatron96 10-11-2021 04:14 PM

On paper KC should win rather easily.

But if the offense turns the ball over 2-3 times it'll be a coin flip. Hopefully Mahomes doesn't throw any INTs and no one fumbles the ball.

On a sidenote, I really hope we see Gordon on the field for 15-20 snaps. See what he has left in the tank.

Chiefs really need to watch Sweat in this game.

260 pound guy running 4.4 can wreck our offense.

InChiefsHeaven 10-13-2021 12:08 PM

Does Heineke need to throw though? Just run the ball...Chiefs can't stop that...

...only hope is our Offense being who they are and forcing WFT to play catch up.

We're gonna do it. Dammit.

Interesting...I guess I never really thought about it...but all the QB's we've lost to are actually pretty mobile...

Here's a novel concept for the WFT game: ****ING BLITZ. Isn't that what Spags' defenses are known for? Exotic blitzes? Constant pressure from anywhere at any time? It certainly looked way better in the second half of that Buffalo abortion than the previous 18 quarters of ineptitude.

Hammock Parties 10-13-2021 12:39 PM

Well get ready, because Heinicke can scoot.

Chiefs are blitzing 30% of the time - near the top of the league.

Blitzes aren't getting home and when they do the coverage breakdowns are so quick and so thorough that the ball just comes to a wide open receiver before anyone can finish the play.

Thus far blitzing hasn't really been the answer either.

What was the percentage prior to the second half of the Buffalo game? It seemed we dialed it up and it was highly effective; almost like this roster was built for that style of play. :hmmm:

{shrug}

I just don't know how frequently you can blitz right now when your secondary can't stay on the same page for more than a snap or two at a time.

It's really a mess.

FloridaMan88 10-13-2021 12:48 PM

Tyreek not practicing today with a quad injury, Thuney not practicing with a broken hand and of course Chris Jones is not practicing with the AIDS in his wrist “injury”.

I need to go find the tweet but Niemann has blitzed like 14-15 times. Dude has gotten there zero times. No pressures.

That's not surprising. Might as well throw harsh words at the QB...it'll be about as effective. Waste of a roster spot, Niemann is.

JakeF 10-13-2021 12:51 PM

We must have a plan to handle Chase Young. If he is neutralized, then the Washington Defense becomes fairly pedestrian. Without a dominant defense, the entire team becomes nothing.

suzzer99 10-13-2021 01:43 PM

I like how all the Chiefs pundits are now basically shooing us in for 5-3, like we were playing the 2020 Jaguars every game, the same way they all had us as a lock to be in the Superbowl again before the season started.

RICKY SEALS-JONES sighting! Oh noes!

suzzer99 10-13-2021 02:00 PM

I played Ricky Seals-Jones this week since Kyle Pitts is on a bye. Expecting big things vs. the Chiefs D. But he may be screwed if we bench Sorenson.

lcarus 10-13-2021 02:09 PM

I was listening to the fantasy football channel on XM in the car and they were all talking about picking up Heinicke for his upcoming career day. Frickin pathetic. This defense needs to regroup and come in with their asses on fire.

Also talked about how much of a shootout this is gonna be. It's funny how much difference a month can make. Before the season, everyone was saying the Washington defense was gonna be really good.

Some of these blitzes seem akin to "well shit, I can't do anything else with him so I might as well have him rush to occupy a blocker...."

Sorensen's are the same way. I don't remember the last time Hitch got through either.

We don't have good blitzers. Gay probably should be and Bolton was at Mizzou but the NFL is a different critter. Sneed is excellent at it but you can only show that card so many times and unlike some of the other guys, he CAN do multiple things well elsewhere so blitzing him is pretty painful if he doesn't get home.

Bottom line is that we need to get Sorensen and Niemann off the field and this front 4 has got to figure shit out. The effort level has really been unacceptable.

Eureka 10-13-2021 02:44 PM

This Heinicke QB plays like he has nothing to lose. Dude was out of football last year and was studying for an exam when he got a call. He comes in on his first start in quite some time and almost beats the Bucs. Watched him on TNF against the Giants and he threw a dime to the back of the end zone for a TD. Kind of a wow factor. He scrambles a lot as well and makes plays like this.

Maybe Honey Badger can bait him into a couple picks.

He could do that but that would mean the Def is good and we haven't seen that this year.

More likely he picks this def apart but Mahomes does better.

If we lose this game, where do we go from there?

I would normally have so much confidence against them but after watching our D give up 29 points per game on average, I have to be shown we can win for at least the next 3 games to gain my confidence back.

You can just about write this season off if they manage to lose any of these next 3 games. Browns, Ravens, and Chargers are definitely going to the playoffs and our games were decided on turnovers. Buffalo is the only team that has outright beat us. Hopefully finally getting the shit kicked out of them straight up will beat some sense into these ****s heads that there is no sleepwalking through the regular season. Our defense looked halfway decent that second half against Buffalo so not all hope is lost just yet.

As far as im concerned the Chiefs are about to rip off a winning streak starting on Sunday.

DCTwister 10-13-2021 06:39 PM

I’m looking forward to seeing my Chiefs in person on Sunday with my teenage sons. Funny how they have grown up in the DC area but have always been Chiefs fans, not really interested in the Washington Footballs at all. (I am from KC and certainly brainwashed them)

On one hand, they are the two worst defenses in the NFL, so it could be crazy. But Mahomes, Kelce, Hill and our new OL are >> than Heinecke and miscellaneous others. We win, 42-24 but give up a lot of yards.

Fall to 2-4 and lose to a Redskins team that hasn't been able to find footing all year and yeah, the season's probably shot.

Washington has an elite DL that will be a huge test for our young OL. Young, Allen and Sweat are all capable of commanding double teams and wrecking the game. If our OL is up to the task, we should be able to get to .500.

Agreed, Chris Jones not playing or practicing through a wrist “contusion” while the defense is a raging dumpster fire.

I would love to think that all of the controversy swirling around them is a huge distraction, and that it will affect them deeply

But the truth is I'm not counting on it...

That defense is simply too talented to suck like this forever, they could well be a buzzsaw on sunday

Throw in a very game Heinecke surrounded by some outstanding weapons against this historically bad defense... and this could EASILY be a life or death dogfight

Nope. Just another guy who got paid and is shutting it down.
