My race against the all-time marathon records.

Tomorrow I'll be chasing history.

I'll run my first half-marathon tomorrow, and will be chasing the legends of old. I'll post in a poll the historical records of the marathon, as each five-minute segment was passed (2:30, 2:25, etc.) How do think I'll compete?

(Technically, the guys in the poll were running full marathons while I'll be running a half-marathon, but there are only four letters' difference.)

As a little background information, I did my first casual 13.1 mile run a couple of weeks ago, and my Nike/Ipod told me I ran it in 2:27:33. It's not certain how accurate it is at determining distance, though it looked like it was pretty close.

Just double your stride, full-marathon WIN!!!

Half empty / half full.

Half hearted

Half assed

Half wit

Halves and the half nots

Half life

There's a joke in there somewhere.

Good point. Four letters and a punctuation mark.

Have you calibrated your Nike+? How accurate has it been in the past. I need full disclosure before I will vote in your poll.

I haven't calibrated it, but I mapped out my 13.1 mile route and it showed it at 13.0 miles, so it must be pretty close at that distance. At shorter distances I've noticed that it can vary a bit (up to 10 or even 15 percent) in terms of not being able to tell when I have a faster or slower pace.

I admire you for your effort, no matter what time you end with.

Thanks. I'm quite excited about it. The only other formal run I've ever done was a 5K about 12 years ago, so this is a great leap forward for me.

Congrats, Kevin. No way I could do that. But I'm old.

Good luck! You still racing against Joe?

Nah. He was sick this week, so he said he's not going to run. So...I won! I beat Joe!

Joe's premise is that I have to finish to win, but my thinking is that I win as long as I finish at least one foot of the race.

(Joe is a coworker who's actually a real marathoner.)

Good luck!

Personally, if I have to go 13.whatever miles, I'm driving.

You should start now.
