So is Quinten Lawrence the only real impact guy we drafted?

Tyson jackson might be quality DE but he's not a big sack guy. I guess he does get some tackles for loss which is good. Magee is a decent enough pass rusher for a DT, what will he do at DE in a 3-4?

Washington isn't an interception or turnover guy. Brown, nope.

Williams isn't a big play guy and the tight end has barely played. A kicker?

So the wide receiver is the only big play, burst type guy we got in the draft? :(

If Tyson Jackson can swallow up blockers, the OLB's will be able to effectively rush the passer. That's his primary role.

If he can't, don't expect much improvement on the sack totals.

I might be inclined to say that these guys, namely Jackson and Magee, are the types that will allow for the success of other players and make an impact in that manner.

Hopefully Cassel is an impact player.

talastan 04-28-2009 12:59 PM

We've had impact players the past 20 years, and how many Super Bowls have we won?

We need the lunchpail types first to establish our foundation and then we'll see what we've got in the way of impact IMO. While this draft defintely lacked any of the star-power, it was very efficient in the way of shoring up our biggest weakness, Defense. Jackson and Magee will add some meat to our D-line, hopefullly stopping the run and swallowing up some blockers so that our LB corp can make some plays. Brown will hopefully fulfill the role of our starting RT, and open up our run game. He already is an effective pass blocker as demonstrated at Missouri.

ya, if the LBs are getting all the glory and getting sacks and the defense improves this draft will prove fine. My worry is that most fans will judge a #3 pick (and maybe rightly so) based purely on stats.

When does training camp start?

beach tribe 04-28-2009 01:08 PM

So you guys watched a lot of Brown at Mizzou right?

What do you guys think of this pick? Can he be our RT. He certainly has the size. How did he do. How many sack did he give up?

I honestly don't know much about him. The scouting reports were not favorable (he was the 58th rated OT in the entire draft) and as I mentioned on Sunday, I would have taken Herman Johnson at that point (he went to the Cardinals later in that round).

All we can do is hope, because he doesn't have experience in a Pro-Style offense and supposedly, he has poor footwork.

The wr cat has good hands in that video. Doesn't make any sense if he's that good.

Sure it makes sense.

He didn't play against great competition and was hampered by an injury last year. Broken ankle IIRC. May have been lingering injury concerns.

I hope DJ is on the outside. He could be a menace with his speed...

He played in the Texas vs. the Nation game in a pro-style offense (Gene Stallings was the coach) and apparently several teams walked away from it convinced that he wasn't just a spread tackle.

Also, the scouting reports say he's intelligent and a very hard worker, so he fits the mental profile.

It would have to be weakside.

I can't see him taking on tight ends.

Micjones 04-28-2009 02:22 PM

I'm tired of style over substance football.
I'm fine with solid decisions that help sturdy the foundation of this team.
When LB's are flying all over the place wreaking havoc on QB's and ballcarriers Chiefs fans will understand the importance of players like Tyson Jackson.
