Anyone here a tax preparer?

I need some advice. I’ve found Contradicting guidance for a treatment in my return.

Nope. But I stayed in a Holiday Inn Express once.

I am not, but I went to ours yesterday and got some great news on the farm.

Our guy is a full time professional and spends a lot of time getting fully versed annually on changes.

At the risk of having this thread end up in D.C., let me just say it is more winning!

Yep. That’ll be $5000, please

I met this awesome dude named Tom Turbotax...he did my taxes for $49! All I did was supply my documents and answer his questions. He did the rest!

I've seen how that is working out. Somehow, all of the republicans got massive tax cuts and all of the democrats got massive tax hikes! How strange is that?!!?!?

tmax63 02-13-2019 08:35 AM

NO, NO, NO, NO. Everyone is getting smaller refunds and are mad as hell this year because the tax cut only went to the rich Republicans. Just because the IRS adjusted the withholding tables so that practically everyone got an extra $20 or $50 in their paycheck during the year and didn't give Uncle Sam a big interest-free loan during the year to get back as a refund check means that all us "middle class" got screwed on the tax cuts.

But to answer your question I have had someone do mine ever since I got an IRS letter saying "we'll let you do it this way this year because it doesn't say you can't" but next year you will do "x, y and z".

 Seriously though, did anyone get a Federal tax hike? Lots of blue states with tax increases on that level though. Just saw a deal on Connecticut passing another one.

Good,

I shouldn't have to subsidize another state project.

P.S. a big tax return isn't a good thing people... XD

mikeyis4dcats. 02-13-2019 09:16 AM

haven't gotten all my corporate paperwork to file yet, but anecdtoally I've heard a couple of people who had abnormal swings in going from a refund previously to owing a fair amount with little to no other change in status.

My check went up minimally with the new withholding, so I'm curious to see if I go from a small refund to owing a chunk.

Really the only guy that got screwed compared to last year is if you had a C Corp making less than 50,000. That tax increased. Other than that there is a set of facts that can lose a guy a little bit because the exemption went away and was replaced with a higher Child Tax Credit. But most of those are offset by lower brackets and higher standard deduction.

From what I can tell there aren’t many folks going backward on Federal this year.

Twin daughters turned 17 last year. Marco Rubio and has last-minute negotiations definitely hurt my returns this year as the child tax credit is no longer available in the year a child turns 17.

I am in a very small subset that got hosed by the age change. For almost any other family, the increased amount of the child tax credit (even if for one less year of a child's life) is a net gain over time. It was just bad timing for me because of the ages of my kids.

Yea but that didn't take effect this year, it's been in place for a while so had Trump's tax plan not gone into effect you would be even more screwed.

The 10k cap on state tax deductions put a hurting on those states.

They’ve been using that write off as a crutch for years.

I can’t believe it when people are surprised about their return. Shouldn’t they have that figured out as the year rolls on?
