Abner Haynes 1963

We were still the Dallas Texans in 1963, the season our stud RB Abner Haynes put on a show.

Keep in mind 14 games

rushing...1049...franchise first 1000 yard season
Avg....4.7
TD....13
rec....39
yards...573
Avg...14,7
TD....6

Yep, 19 TD's.

He was All Pro that season.

Haynes was a great runner, he had speed, quicks and was elusive, great great runner, but what has held him back from being more of a name is he only had three good seasons, not sure why.

His rookie card one of my prized possesions he's in his North Texas State uni, yep, very cool.

Not me. I’m waiting for Cotton Davidson and why his trade was so important to the Chiefs going forward.

This would be incorrect

AFL champs in 62 as Texans, but in KC in 63 as Chiefs.

Thank you. Glad somebody in this thread has some knowledge of our team’s proud history.

Haynes is an historically important player in franchise history, that can't be said about Livingston.

How many games did Mike Livingston start backing up the injured Lenny Dawson in that Super Bowl winning 1969 season? He went 6-0 as a starter. Four Touchdowns/Six Interceptions ROFL

Abner Haynes trade to Denver was a shameful day in Chiefs history. Abner made the 1964 AFL All Star team which was to be played in New Orleans. New Orleans had segregated hotels for Black and White players. Abner led a resistance by the black all stars not to go if the hotels were segregated. The game was moved to Houston, where players could all stay in the same hotel. The Chiefs summarily traded Haynes to Denver for being "Uppity" and a "boat rocker." There's a letter that Jack Steadman sent him that basically said he was being traded for these reasons. He was akin to Colin Kaepernick in 1964 over Civil Rights. He had his principles, and the Chiefs got rid of him for making the league move the game from New Orleans to Houston. You can read about it here:

Hard to believe but he made the pro bowl that season.

Had we not traded Herschel....I mean Cotton, we would not have been in position to draft Buchanan.

TLO 02-17-2020 02:20 PM

Yes but did he drink lemonade?

Getting Buchanan was big, he was the greatest D lineman in the history of the AFL.

I learned something today, love it and thanks.
