KU Footballer Accused Of Attacking Couple At Concert
Bruce Ringwood Charged With Assault

UPDATED: 8:29 pm CDT August 24, 2005

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A metro-area couple is bruised, battered and angry after allegedly being attacked by a University of Kansas football player over the weekend, KMBC's Peggy Breit reported Wednesday.

Terry and Kathy Hendren, of Shawnee, Kan., attended a Kenny Chesney concert Sunday night at Kemper Arena.

The couple said a fight started when KU player Bruce Ringwood was behind Kathy and allegedly hit her in the head.

"I turned around and went, 'Hey, that hurt, be careful.' And he got this just real belligerent look on his face, like, 'Lady, I don't have to listen to you or anybody,' and flipped me off," Kathy Hendren told KMBC.

She said her husband turned to the 20-year-old Ringwood and told him to apologize.

"Well, instead of apologizing, he dove over the seats and tackled my husband," Hendren said.

Terry Hendren was on the ground being pummeled, and Kathy said she tried to stop the beating. That's when she was hit in the eye.

Hendren said the assault on her husband didn't end, and she was trying to stop the attacker when he gave her a hard push.

"(He) stiff-arms me, and that's when I went just flying down the steps and landed sprawled in the middle of the steps in the aisle," Hendren said.

Kathy was badly bruised and sore. Her husband escaped from the attacker, and they headed for the exit.

Police arrested Ringwood. He was charged with two counts of assault and is due in court in October.

The KU Web site said Ringwood was red-shirted last year as a freshman linebacker. He is eligible to play this fall. Before the Jayhawks, Ringwood played in Blue Springs.

Hendren said whatever Ringwood's accomplishments on the football field, he needs to learn a lesson from this.

"I'm old enough to be his mother -- would he want somebody to do that to his mom?" Hendren said. "He needs to understand you can't do this to people."

KU officials said they were aware of the incident and are gathering information.

Sure, let's go ahead and pay him a stipend while we're at it!

He should be kicked off the team. What a prick.

I agree. Although, it wouldn't make much of a difference. He is a 2nd string FB on an offense that rarely utilizes a FB.

Do any of you ever wonder what you would do if you had a bat in your hand and saw this guy act like that ?

I was think about if this happened to my parents and this guy was doing this shit.

Would you hit him on the head and risk killing the stupid mut or hit him in the knees ?

Nah.. You do your best George Brett imitation and swing level into his rib cage. Gauranteed to imobilize him for quite a spell. Not to mention break 3-4 ribs. :thumb:
This kid will be kicked off the team. But then we haven't heard the whole story yet.

Shit, Ringwood...what the hell? Yes I went to HS with the guy.. We knew eachother but were not friends. He isn't a bad guy but he is one of those fellas who gets a little prideful at times and does stupid things because of it...

I feel for the guy but the law of the school and the real law should do its thing and whatever happens to him happens to him.

I can't believe the guy is palying full back.

They could have made this story a lot shorter.
A JOCO couple go to a country concert expecting to be able be rude to others with no consequences, as is customary in Shawnee. Unbeknownst to them the other party was a Missourian, who promptly beat the shit out of them.

I've gathered enough information..........boot him.

Yes. Attending a Kenny Chesney concert is a serious offense, and he should be punished. :)

I highly doubt a 20 year old kid hit a lady in the back of the head for no reason. I also highly doubt that this Mission couple were anything but rude when they turned around. It's too bad the lady got hurt, but she shouldn't have gotten in the way of two men fighting.

Whether you are at a concert, in your car, or over the phone you shouldn't say anything that you can't back up. I learned that lesson the hard way at a much younger age, I guess this guy has lived a more pampered life than some.
