Tatis is amazing. Does anyone recall WHO Fernandito was traded for?

BIG GAME JAMES YO.

White Sox fans will only be able to live that one down with a World Series. Can you imagine if they lose a World Series to the Padres?

To be fair he was like 17 when that happened, sometimes long term vision works.

You could make that argument for every young player.

And the data is pretty clear: wait if you want to maximize your payout.

(And yes I know this becasue you’ve mentioned it before. BGJ)

I’d bet anything it’s COVID. And uncertainty about future industry revenues.

I’ll make a prediction: COVID is almost over. The Vax is returning sterling results across multiple countries. (I’m biased as I got hit three weeks ago). By summer Americans will be 50% hit and it’ll dissipate and MLB revenues will go back to trend level.

And when they do, Tatis will regret what he did.

A dollar today is worth more than dollar tomorrow.

duncan_idaho 02-17-2021 10:57 PM

Yeah, to truly max it out you need to go year to year. I get that logic.

Tatis was slated to make about $45 million over the next four years of team control.

He likely will make more now, depending on how that deal was structured.

Sure. But the dollar today is being discounted by COVID.

I’m really bullish on America and COVID and even MLB.

If I’m Sherman I go “long” on the industry.

I try to lock up in order:

1. Dozier
2. Keller
3. Salvy

Makes me think of when the Royals signed Brett, Wilson & Quisenberry to lifetime deals.

Stark: The 2021 spring training storylines survey has Padres, Blue Jays front and center
by
Jason Stark

Quote:

SURVEY SAID: In the Most Improved American League Team voting, the Blue Jays went 32-for-32. So they join the Padres in appearing on every ballot. And after the year we’ve just lived through, has unanimity ever felt more heartwarming? Did you notice that two-thirds of the AL franchises were just treading water (or worse) this winter? Our voters did.

So only four teams besides the Jays got more than two votes in the Most Improved Team balloting: White Sox 28, Angels 14, Royals 12, Yankees 6. And one voter refused to list any other team except the Blue Jays. His ballot looked like this: “Blue Jays … That’s it!”
Quote:

SURVEY SAID: Best Trade: Lindor and Arenado swallowed up most of the votes in the Best Trades competition — but not all of them. The leader board after those two: Snell to the Padres 8, Darvish to the Padres 7, Andrew Benintendi to the Royals 2. The fun little group that got one vote apiece included Raisel Iglesias to the Angels, an actual Yankees-Red Sox deal (sending Adam Ottavino to Boston) and separate votes for both the Yankees’ and Pirates’ end of the Jameson Taillon trade.

Big contract for a small payroll team like the A's.

It was a different kind of contract though.

2021 - $3MM, 2022 - $3MM and then $5MM will be paid in 2023

So play 1 year and Athletics will pay out the $11MM over three years time.
