David Letterman to retire from 'Late Show' in 2015

That puts him at right around 33 years on nightly t.v. Wow. Amazing. Wonder if Bill Murray will be on his last show... You know Chris Elliott will be back and there'll be a tribute to Larry Bud. You can tell it's time for him...but still sad. End of an era.

Names that I've heard mentioned as possible candidates: John Stewart, Steven Colbert, Chelsea Handler, & Craig Ferguson.

Top Ten Reasons I'm Glad David Letterman is Leaving:

10. David Letterman isn't funny
9. Paul Schaffer is the worst person to put on TV. Ever.
8. Old people will maybe wise up and do something more productive with their time
7. Hopefully staying at home will prevent him from leaking out any more spawns of himself
6. Jay Leno probably feels a bit lonely
5. If he's hanging out with Jay, he probably won't have time to say to CBS, "Hey, and if you guys need anything when Craig Ferguson takes over, I'm just a phone call away"
4. Eyeballs across America will suffer 23% less stress from having to look at shit that ugly for an hour every weeknight
3. Did I mention that Paul Schaffer can go die in an AIDS fire?
2. Did I mention that David Letterman isn't funny?
1. NEVER HAVE TO LISTEN THROUGH ANOTHER UNFUNNY PIECE OF SHIT TOP TEN LIST EVER A****INGGAIN!

Craig Ferguson has the best show.

Outside of Carson, this is the most momentous retirement from entertainment broadcast tv ever... watching Dave making the uber comfortable squirm in their seats has been my privilege.

Without his crazy skew on things you would have NEVER seen a Conan or Colbert or Kimmel... Dave made it OK to needle your guests a bit, to not be awed by fawning instincts, to make them a bit more human for you.

Dave Rules.

No ****ing way Jon, Stephen or Chelsea leave. It'll be Ferguson.

I used to watch him more often but haven't had time in the past few years. Caught a show or two lately and he still has it.

I'm pretty sure Chelsea Handler just announced in the last week or so that she won't be back with her show on E! after her contract runs out this year, so the match is definitely there if the mutual interest is.

No way in hell will she be chosen.

Best case scenario is that they give it Jay and in two months Conan takes it from him.
