I went last week & thought about you all.

Chicken planks are really good if you haven't had them in 10+yrs. I also like Diet Pepsi to Diet Coke, these days.

Glad you enjoyed yours, though.

The Franchise 05-02-2012 05:51 PM

I thought about stopping there the other day but I didn't. Those ****ing hush puppies look delicious though.

Hoover 05-02-2012 05:52 PM

I can only go to LJS if I will be back to my house in a half hour because I'll have to shit out all that grease.

Thig Lyfe 05-02-2012 05:53 PM

Good thread. Compelling and rich.

I'm not sure if I've ever eaten at a LJS.

Phobia 05-02-2012 05:54 PM

I used to think that place was a real treat when I was a kid. I doubt I've eaten there as an adult.

Simply Red 05-02-2012 05:56 PM

I grew up across the street from the one that used to be at 70 & 7-hwy. I grew up to the smell of crunchies & Zarda bbq throughout the hood.

Love the chicken planks

hometeam 05-02-2012 05:59 PM

Onion bread and pepsi?

Not for me :(

chiefs1111 05-02-2012 05:59 PM

I haven't had Long John Silvers in almost 10 years.

listopencil 05-02-2012 06:00 PM

Home made hush puppies with diced jalapeno peppers and crumbled sharp cheddar cheese in the mix. Sprinkled with malt vinegar and splashed with ketchup.

Fritz88 05-02-2012 06:04 PM

It sucked the last time I went there.

It's a once every couple of years guilty pleasure. I still love it, but I recognize how absolutely ****ing horrible it is for me. And I feel like crap for a couple of hours after eating it.

But it still tastes great. Love that malt vinegar sauce, too.

Oh yeah. Once every five years or so I go there and gorge myself. I feel like shit afterwards of course. But it's so good.

DaFace 05-02-2012 06:09 PM

Ate there last week. I probably eat there a few times a year.

As it was for us. My Dad wouldn't eat at the "restaurant," so he used to drive like a maniac to get home in time home before the food went "bad."

If lobster bisque looks like that, I don't think "nice" would be an appropriate descriptive adjective. :spock:

listopencil 05-02-2012 06:12 PM

That's it. I am going to find a place around here where I can get lobster and hush puppies.

SCTrojan 05-02-2012 06:12 PM

I go there every few months or so. Love the seafood combo platter or whatever they call it.

Los Pollos Hermanos 05-02-2012 06:13 PM

As a kid, going to LJS was for special occasions. Of course we had to drive 60 miles to get to the nearest one. Now, I won't drive across town to eat at one.

Bisque varies greatly depending on where you get it. I actually used finely diced carrot in mine, but it isn't white like that thing.

Do they have lobster bisque (or crab) at KFC, SR?

Don't laugh, but believe it or not, Red Lobster has an acceptable lobster bisque. It's not spectacular, but it's surprisingly good. Although one must forget the fact that it's probably been on heat for a good few days.

exactly, regarding Red Lobster, it's not slop - but it's far from sensational.

QuikSsurfer 05-02-2012 06:18 PM

Never eaten there.. But I also prefer Diet Pepsi to Diet Coke -- especially for mixed drinks.

Costco actually sells acceptable lobster bisque. Only store I know of that you can actually buy it.

But for the good stuff, you've got to aim high. The best I ever had was at Ruth's Chris.

Really? I didn't know that. I'll have to check that out. Thanks.

The best bisque I've ever had was at some seafood joint in Austin and some place in SF. Bristol's in Leawood is also very good. Mine gets better every time I make it, but I think that's mostly Courvoisier.

listopencil 05-02-2012 06:22 PM

If it's more of a soup maybe I'll just try making it myself.

I made "lobster bisque" a few weeks ago and didn't feel like getting lobster, so I got that fake fish stuff ($2.99 or something) just to see if my kids would notice. Little ****ers took one bite and said, "DAD!? What IS this!!!?"

Went to LSJ's last Saturday night actually. Since moving to Platte City, I've been deprived on the St. Joe goodness that is Long John's. Then I saw there was one in plain ****ing sight from the interstate on Barry Road. I don't know how I've missed this gem for so long.

Chicken planks are the shit. Fries are ****ing awesome. Fish is good. Hush puppies owned.

I love Long John Silver's.
