I used to think that place was a real treat when I was a kid. I doubt I've eaten there as an adult.

I haven't had Long John Silvers in almost 10 years.

Home made hush puppies with diced jalapeno peppers and crumbled sharp cheddar cheese in the mix. Sprinkled with malt vinegar and splashed with ketchup.

It sucked the last time I went there.

It's a once every couple of years guilty pleasure. I still love it, but I recognize how absolutely ****ing horrible it is for me. And I feel like crap for a couple of hours after eating it.

But it still tastes great. Love that malt vinegar sauce, too.

Oh yeah. Once every five years or so I go there and gorge myself. I feel like shit afterwards of course. But it's so good.

Ate there last week. I probably eat there a few times a year.

As a kid, going to LJS was for special occasions. Of course we had to drive 60 miles to get to the nearest one. Now, I won't drive across town to eat at one.

Bisque varies greatly depending on where you get it. I actually used finely diced carrot in mine, but it isn't white like that thing.

Do they have lobster bisque (or crab) at KFC, SR?

My favorite soup. But you need to go to a really good seafood place or steakhouse to get the good stuff.

Don't laugh, but believe it or not, Red Lobster has an acceptable lobster bisque. It's not spectacular, but it's surprisingly good. Although one must forget the fact that it's probably been on heat for a good few days.

Costco actually sells acceptable lobster bisque. Only store I know of that you can actually buy it.

But for the good stuff, you've got to aim high. The best I ever had was at Ruth's Chris.

The best bisque I've ever had was at some seafood joint in Austin and some place in SF. Bristol's in Leawood is also very good. Mine gets better every time I make it, but I think that's mostly Courvoisier.

If it's more of a soup maybe I'll just try making it myself.

Try the Costco stuff first. You'll probably love it since you have nothing to compare it to.

I made "lobster bisque" a few weeks ago and didn't feel like getting lobster, so I got that fake fish stuff ($2.99 or something) just to see if my kids would notice. Little ****ers took one bite and said, "DAD!? What IS this!!!?"

Went to LSJ's last Saturday night actually. Since moving to Platte City, I've been deprived on the St. Joe goodness that is Long John's. Then I saw there was one in plain ****ing sight from the interstate on Barry Road. I don't know how I've missed this gem for so long.

Chicken planks are the shit. Fries are ****ing awesome. Fish is good. Hush puppies owned.
