If KC wants Edwards, they will have to give up picks. No way around it.

Their has been some talk recently about Peterson playing games with the Jets. That he is stalling in negotiations in the hope that the relationship between Edwards and NYJ has deteriorated to the point that the Jets will fire him so that they can begin looking for a new head coach.

Of course, if the Jets fire their coach, then he can be had without compensation. BUT...

Once compensation talks begin, which apparently they have, how can the Jets keep their coach? There is no way IMO that he could return to the NYJ sideline next season. So in a sense, KC has forced the divorce between the Jets and their coach.

I think that even if the Jets fire Edwards and KC picks him up, Tagliabue will force KC to give up picks. Personally I think this is fair.

On the other hand, however----

What has KC done wrong? The way I understand it, compensation must be negotiated BEFORE KC can interview or even talk to Edwards. The fact that the Jets were willing to bargin was a clear sign that they didn't want their coach back--in essence, he was fired.

This may get ugly.

Bob Dole fully expects bundle of sticksliabue to step in at some point and take away draft picks, whether KC gets Edwards or not.

Seriously, yes. I could see the exasperated Jets just fire Herm, he walks into the arms of a beaming Carl Peterson, only to have Tags intervene with a "Well, the Chiefs FORCED the Jets to fire him, that's not fair, KC loses its 1st and 3rd this year."

jidar 01-06-2006 07:34 AM

If that shit happens I'm running bundle of sticksliabue over with my Jeep.

Tags has to step in at some point and I think he will say, well if it weren't for the Chiefs Herm would still be with the Jets. The Chiefs must give their first round picks to the jets for the next 80 years...

Wow, think of all the cap dollars that will save us on what would have been first round busts anyway.

Wat to go, Carl!! :thumb:

And when this happens, and it most certainly will, will it have been worth it?

I doubt it.

Warrior5 01-06-2006 07:50 AM

This begs the question:

If Tags forces KC to compensate NY (which would fit his MO), who are you going to blame: Tags or CP?

KCFalcon59 01-06-2006 07:54 AM

it's all on Carl. If we can see it coming he most certainly can.

VonneMarie 01-06-2006 07:55 AM

I'll blame Carl for getting involved with an already married coach.

I honestly can't see that happening. It may be a work around the rules that are currently set up in the NFL, but a team cannot be held liable for working around them.... or at least should not be.

As it stands, the Jets would be stupid to fire Herm. If in the end they only get a 5th and 6th round pick, it is still better than getting absolutly nothing for the guy.

The longer the Jets stretch out the negotiations, the more pressure is on KC to either finalize the deal and give up higher picks... or simply go find someone else to be the HC.

Here's another potential problem with this situation. If Peterson does hire his gooed friend Herm Edwards and Herm stinks up the team, would Carl be able to fire him?

Hell, the way that ass has treated KC I wouldn't be shocked to see us make a trade for him and have Tags step in and take away even more picks from us.

Tags, Greasy AL, and Merrill Hoge all have to be related somehow...
