Make a splash.

Right now, overthecap has given us about $50m to play with.

Here's the roster heading, with impending FAs listed in red.

QB: Mahomes, Gabbert
RB: Pacheco, McKinnon, Edwards-Helaire

WR: Toney, Moore, Valdez-Scantling, Watson, Rice, James, Ross
TE: Kelce, Gray, Bell, Fortson

LT: Smith, Morris
LG: Thuney, Allegretti
C: Humphrey, Allegretti
RG: Smith, Caliendo
RT: Taylor, Wanogho, Niang

DE: Omenihu, Anudike-Uzomah, Herring
DT: Jones, Dickerson, Wharton
DT: Nnadi, Coburn
DE: Karlaftis, Danna, Thompson

WLB: Gay, Tranquill
MLB: Bolton, Tranquill
SLB: Chenal, Cochrane

CB: Sneed, McDuffie, Watson, Williams, Jones, Johnson
S: Reid, Cook, Conner, Edwards

K: Butker
P: Townsend
LS: Winchester

If you could make a big splash in free agency at one position, what position would it be and why?

Oddly enough, I don't think the answer here should be LT.

We're paying Thuney and Taylor big money. We'll be paying at least one of Humphrey/Smith big money.

You can't pay 4 or 5 guys big money along the OL.

I look at that listing and, honestly, DT makes the most sense to me.

S'why in a recent mock I ran, I paid DJ Reader big money.

I'd go the opposite at DT. I'd go young and cheap and just throw draft resources at it, cheap free agents etc.

I'd probably look to spend at DE.

Maybe Chase Young.

If you're going to pay a DT big money, just pay Chris Jones.

Personally, I'd pay Chris Jones and Sneed and then look for a WR. Then focus the draft on finding a young LT and eventual Kelce replacement.

Leo Chenal is under contract through 2025

Correct -- I've confused my white linebackers, heh.

Fixed.

That's interesting.... I don't know how that snap share is going to work.

Karlaftis/Omenihu/FAU are going to have large snap loads next year.

WR was the other option I was looking at.

The Chiefs have been trying to pay Chris Jones for a full year. I don't think it's possible.

I think Mike Danna is someone they should really work to sign. He's a really good rotaional piece and can line up inside or outside.

I'll be fascinated by what he commands on the market.

If im making a splash, that splash is a trade up for Marvin Harrison Jr.

I'd like to keep the draft picks.

If Philly implodes, they might look to dump some cap for a quick reload - maybe AJ Brown hits the market.

When Arizona implodes, maybe you can pick up Hollywood Brown, but I'm not a big fan of his.

If (when - Watson is hilariously ass) Maybe you can pick up Njoko or Peoples-Jones, I like both of those guys.

I'd say Baker flames out but the south is so bad, they'll be in the hunt.

If we are talking recievers, we really need to find a field stretcher to replace MVS, or extend MVS. But otherwise, that's a pretty full and talented room already.

Ideally, we make a big play this year for Mike Evans or Devante Adams, or maybe Higgins, Ridley, Pittman, or Brown in the offseason, and pay one of them and Chris Jones next year with that money, along with Gay and Sneed. A stalwart WR next to our stalwart TE would really set us up for success IMO, damn you Tyreek! If that's not a possibility, it would be really interesting to pay a high-quality DE like Brian Burns, or a second DT, like say Aaron Donald when/if he breaks free from LAR!? Here's a list of FA RBs this offseason as well: Barkley, Taylor, Jacobs, Dobbins, Ekler, & Henry... interesting.

Direckshun 09-22-2023 07:51 AM

The Chiefs, under Andy Reid, do not like paying for past performances.

They've tried for a year to get a deal done with Jones. They can't, it's over. Jones will likely play out the season and walk into free agency.
