The Palm Pre by Sprint

I broke down and got one of these just a few minutes ago. If anyone has one and has some tips, this is a good place and I'd really appreciate it. I really loved my Instinct, but everything pointed to this phone giving the iphone a run for the money.

Sprint GPS is a huge feature for my money, and the NFL programs available kick ass. This phone has an OS like nothing I've ever seen on a cell phone. It is just ****ing ridiculous how easy it is. The screen is brilliant, and I love the pinch feature to zoom in and out ala the iphone.

There are some definite downsides to it. The keyboard is ridiculously small, and it should be horizontal rather than vertical. There aren't many apps to this point but the phone just released yesterday so I'm confident that will change. No video playback to this point, but it's coming from everything reported. It also has 8gb of memory built into it, but no expansion port for memory cards. That really sucks for people like me who use their phones like an Ipod.

Overall, I think it's smokin right out of the box and is only going to get better as we move forward. It's definitely the best phone on the market right now outside of the Iphone, and certainly Sprint's best option IMO. Anyone have one? Anyone gonna get one? What say ye?

How much did you pay for it?

$299.99 with a $100 mail in rebate on an upgrade. I'll sell my Instinct for $150 on craigslist and it'll cost me $75 after tax. I pretty much did it because by all accounts it does everything the Instinct does and a whole shit ton more. You should definitely check it out. There's also a 30 day return deal on it, so if I hate it I can get all my money back.

Does it have WiFi?

I'm not able to upgrade for that price right now and I currently have a Blackberry Curve for work. I'd have to check to make sure that it can sync up with Outlook at my job before I got one. I'll probably wait to see what happens with it.

The wife and I have been with Verizon for 10 years and we're considering jumping to Sprint for this. Their plans are hard to beat right now too.

I'm curious to see how the Pre will stack up to the new iPhone model.

If I wasn't locked into T-mobile and could shop around, the Pre would be getting a look at by me.

Yes. And it's beautiful. With the card system in place, you can review documents, surf the internet, check the weather, and talk on the phone at the exact same time. I'm really just getting this thing charged up, and getting files transferred. I'll do a complete review on it, and it's functionability in the next few days. So far, it's absolutely beautiful.

I'd LOVE to get one, but I don't want to drop off my SERO plan (the old, grandfathered version --- $30 for 500 minutes and unlimited data). I'm using the original HTC Touch, which has been a pretty good phone for me after doing some tweaks.

One of the high points of the phone is multiple applications open at once and easy navigation between them. However, I wonder how that impacts battery life? I'd be interested to hear your experience with that once you have it up and running for a few days.

Most of the reviews I read loved the fact that you could have more than one application running, but almost all of them added a caveat: you gotta watch your battery life.

That's the main reason Apple hasn't allowed it thus far.

I have The New York Times updated daily for free on this phone. Absolutely beautiful.

What pisses me off is I basically have the everything plan on my phone for 4 lines and I'm paying roughly 119.99 for everything.

Now, if I switch to the Pre, I have to switch to a different data plan, completely canceling this sweet offer I have.

I want the Pre but no way do I give up my unreal package.

I just did a double take to make sure they didn't back door me into a plan change. Luckily, (or unluckily depending on how you look at it) they didn't. I should quantify that it's $299.99 then $199.99 after I get my rebate. It looked kind of confusing when I reread it.

This phone is unreal. The browser is amazing, the card feature is awesome, I'm having zero issues with a phone that released 48 hours ago. I'm beyond pleased.

Anyone want to buy $110,000 casino cash for $299.99?

LMAO

I'd just like to say that the battery issues I talked about in the OP are attrocious. And I mean ****ing attrocious. My phone was in sleep mode last night when I went to bed and the battery was at 83%. Somehow my alarm volume was turned down and I slept right through it. When I did finally get up, the battery was at 55%. That's ****ing gross.
