Bolton is a fast flowing LB who seems to thrive of collisions - either with the ball carrier or his blockers. His physical style and football character are off the charts. Diagnoses and attacks downhill, looking for the shortest path to the ball. He moves with a suddenness that often catches blockers on their heels. He has plenty of pop as a tackler despite his relatively small size. His pure speed allows him to get sideline to sideline as well as closing as a blitzer

Cons - mostly vague complaints about his short stature at 6'0, arm length, and ability to cover big TE's

CJ Mosley ran a 4.64
Darius Leonard ran a 4.70
Eric Kendricks ran a 4.61

Not like you guys wouldn't take those guys on the team.

I'd have liked to see his jumps a little better, but its not bad or out of range too far from most of those guys. He can run just as well as them. And he hits like a truck.

He's a natural middle linebacker, he's not going to cover TE's a whole lot at all.

That's kind of silly.

It also bodes well for him getting on the field faster than Gay did last year.

Similar to Gay in that respect but the guy is a lot more polished with a lot more experience and a lot more of a team and defensive leader.

I'm so tired of having the absolute lowest common denominator at LB. Cannot remotely fault Veach for trying to improve a position group that's - OBVIOUSLY - been abysmal at best.

Hopefully this means Hitchens is gone after this year.

It was no secret that the biggest weakness on the team was Neimann. In our 2 losses our LB’s could not shoot gaps or do their jobs effectively and it showed.

This team was said be exposed as a finesse team in the SB and Veach took that personally

His 10 yard time has to be excellent bc he’s shooting the gap so quickly for TFL’s

I still think they do this for either a Hitchens replacement or to kick Niemann off of the field.

You can’t cut Hitchens until next season. I’m tired of seeing Niemann play 40% of the defensive snaps a game. Bolton will get those instead

We've needed to upgrade LB and we got one of the best ones we could get where we were drafting. Not a bad pickup at all.

I was hoping for a WR like everyone else, but this is a good pick and at a position some of us kinda figured they'd address.

Instinct is everything at the LB position especially for undersized guys so as to compensate. This kid has great instincts !!!

They're not going to ask him to do things he's not good at doing. Leave that kind of stuff to the Willie Gays of the world.

My sentiments as well but they must know there is some really great hidden gems at the WR position even in the 4th and Veach did say LB was weak this year and probably felt Bolton was the last playmaker knowing the Saints were LB needy as well and sure enough Saints took the LB from Ohio State.

I don’t know much about him but I have no doubt in a room of the 100 best NFL coaches, scouts and executives that Veach and Reid are 1A and 1B so I have zero concern. We needed a LB, they took a LB. I’m guessing they know how they’re going to use him.

Yeah. In Veach we trust. Seems to have done a masterful job with the o-line which matters more.

The way I look at it is that the Orlando Brown jr acquisition and the Creed Humphrey selection made it so the Chiefs crushed the 2021 draft.

Those two guys alone are really more than I expected in one offseason. Add in Jarran Reed and Veach gets an A+++.

If Bolton and any other selection can make an impact in 2021 and beyond, even better.

Spent a lot of years on here listening to people tell me how bad a draft pick is only to watch them blow up. I will reserve judgement. Don't know why I quoted you but I felt on your side.

After the Speaks pick, Veach said the guy was so powerful he was never on the ground. And that was followed by the famous clip of Speaks waving at the camera from the ground.

It is nothing like that. Speaks looks liked slow motion in his highlight tape versus Bolton.

I don't think Pennel is on the team anymore.

Not even close. Speaks was overdrafted and we traded up for him which made it worse. This is a lower risk pick at a position we needed to upgrade

Watch his tape. This guy flies all over the field and has a nose for the ball. Bolton delivers the thump and is a sure tackler. Some had him rated in the top 20 players of this draft. Bolton is damn good football player and will help improve our defense.

I’m assuming he’s brought back cheap in a down cap year. It may not happen, but that line is fun to think about.

Nonetheless, a line of Clark-Reed-Nnadi-Jones is still a wrecking ball of a line.

Yeah, it wouldn't be surprising to see him back on a one year deal.

And as we all know, Veach is just getting started this offseason because once the draft is over, he'll be scouring rosters for potential cuts and trades.

I will say this about Nick Bolton.

As a Mizzou fan, he was one of the only elite players on our defense the last couple years.

Despite heavy focus being put on keeping him away from the play by opposing offenses, he was still highly productive each and every week.

He's a gamer, a highly cerebral, PHYSICAL player. He will make our defense better. I don't know if he will ever be an all pro, but I think he will if nothing else be a really solid player for us.

Melvin Ingram is still out there too.

So many folks love to downplay the importance of good line-backers and it's naive imo. We saw first hand in the SB how they can impact the game and the best defenses always have guys in the middle who can fly around, cover and go side to side. Gay and Bolton will be the most athletic duo we've ever had in the middle of the field probably and Nick is said to be a good leader too. So I'm happy with this pick...he looks similar to Devin Bush to me.

When your LB plays on the other side of the line of scrimmage and tears anuses it's kind of good.

One of the biggest complaints i've had about our defense is how soft we've been at LB since DJ left. We need someone who will lay the wood on dudes.

Bolton ain't running away from people or arm tackling. He's gonna blow people up.

Speaks highlight reel best was him falling on a fumble he didn’t cause. He was noticeably slow and played soft. It was an obvious bad pick.

This is different. You could see Speaks didn’t belong. This guy appears to belong.
