No shit right?

I typically never win stuff like this.

I'm stoked and pretty proud of my coworkers too who helped get us to this position.

vailpass 07-11-2012 02:46 PM

Cool. Can you get it with Android?

Sweet. We got an iPad 2 back in February and love it. I was apprehensive at first but don't regret it one bit. It was on sale and only 30 more than the Samsung equivalent

Nice.

Any apps you recommend?

Fish 07-11-2012 05:28 PM

Some of my most used apps:

The Weather Channel
ESPN Scorecenter XL
What's On? HD - TV Guide. Input cable/sat provider, custom guide with favorites.
Netflix
Pandora
Flixster - Movie theater info/DVD releases/Upcoming movies/etc
Pulse News - Customizable news reader
Dropbox - Very useful for file access
Jump Desktop - Remote desktop/VNC app
ReadleDocs - Versatile document editor

And if you jailbreak it, I would have a bunch of additional recommendations..

I haven't checked into very many apps yet. just a few very basic ones, youtube, IMDB, etc.

HBO GO is phenomenal, assuming you have HBO through your satellite/cable provider.

forget the apps, i wanna know how to win something too

Basically, the compay I work for (Lumber Liquidators) had a contest going for every store in the company.

The guidelines:

The region first had to make their shipped sales plan (our region consists of Topeka, Wichita, KC, Indianopolis, Greenview Ind, Springfield Mo, Columbia Mo, Springfield Ill, Fenton Mo, St. Peters).

If the region accomplished said goal -- the top three stores with the highest percentage to new orders (orders written through June) qualified for the iPAD drawing. My name was drawn -- and I'm scooping a free iPAD3.

Got it?
LMAO

Groves 07-13-2012 04:29 PM

Which model?

The low end does not have cellular capabilities, but if I were you, I'd find a way to exchange it.

Even if you don't plan on purchasing a cellular data plan, the models that have the capability also have the GPS chip inside. You can utilize this chip for gps programs even without cellular service.

I've not a clue. I would assume the ones going for $499. Because the company has to shell out 45+ or so iPADs for the winners.

Ceej 07-13-2012 04:40 PM

And FWIW -- GPS isn't a thing I desperately need.

Pitt Gorilla 07-13-2012 04:58 PM

Awesome board game apps:

Ascension
Unofficial Dominion
New World Colony
Ticket to Ride
Zooloretto
Carcassonne
Food Fight
Puerto Rico
Small World
Catan HD
Anything by Knizia

Oh, and invest in a hardcore Gumdrop-style case. You'll thank me later.

The 3G capability really is nice. If you go on a trip, you can activate the 3G and do whatever connected activities you need to do. The GPS feature is also really nice.

I literally drive like 3-4 places. LMAO

To work, back to my parent's house in Wichita, to Dillons for groceries. That's about it. I don't NEED a GPS.

mr. tegu 07-13-2012 08:40 PM

Google Earth is fun.
Fantasy football sites if you are one one have apps (mine is yahoo).
Weather Channel
A converter for mass, length, etc. I use "Converter +" it has a tip calculator.
RedBox
Blockbuster
Your bank if it has one (Bank of America here)
Your cell phone company (At&t for me)
610 and 810 sports radio plus music stations have them
Any other place you pay bills at because it makes it so easy to remember.

But, ain't going to say "nay" to the iPAD.

It'll come in handy during fantasy football season.

Ignorant question.

In order to set it up -- I'll need an internet connection, my iPAD and a laptop or computer, correct?

You can set it up without a computer. You won't be able to sync it or anything, but you don't have to plug it in.

Interesting.

I've talked to two guys who said I needed a laptop or computer to set the iPAD up.

I'm not worried about syncing anything. Just want to get it set up and start toying with it is all.

If you have a wireless connection, you can get it up and running without a laptop. Apple realizes that half the goons out there never sync their idevices, so they don't require it.

At least I'm 95% sure this is the case. I think I've set up like 3 of them without a computer.

You'll need an internet connection or a computer. It doesn't require both, but you have to have one or the other.

NOT ORGANIC!

So, quick question.

right now my iPad has no sound.

I turned it off playing a poker game.

But, the sound on my settings is turned up all the way and it is on other games too.

Any idea what's going on?

Double tap your home button, and scroll all the way to the left until you see the music controls. On the left of that screen, there should be a mute button. Make sure it's not muted there.

Nope. Not muted.

My iPad still plays music with no problem. Just no sound when I play games.

I don't have my iPad in front of me, but I had this once before. Sound works from headphone jack + certain Apple apps, but not others. I believe it was a quirk with the soft mute, plus the hardware mute (that you can toggle between mute and rotation lock). This has been a year or so ago though.

But I'd start playing/googling from that.

Ace Gunner 03-24-2013 08:49 AM

could be a knob on the game or go to preferences in the game and check the routing there.

It always intrigued me how other people react, in this case your place of work, resent the fact that someone else won a contest. And ridicule them behind their back. I suppose if the winner was to act smug and arrogant about it all I can see their reasoning for it, but otherwise it is just plain jealousy.

Ceej 03-24-2013 06:45 PM

I feel like a putz.

There's a little button right above the volume control which apparently turns off the sound effects.

Durrrrrrrrr.

Ace Gunner 03-24-2013 07:24 PM

Glad you found that..it's a little frustrating. The same thing happens when you try to view videos through a non-first party app while the mute button is toggled.

You can actually dig a bigger hole if you have that toggled to mute and switch the functionality of that button to rotation lock.

007 03-25-2013 09:12 AM

You did try a reboot I hope.
Edit never mind. Appears you found the issue.

Several ways to do that, depending on what OS you have.

Well that's the thing. I don't really use my iPad anymore, and I've divested myself completely of the Apple iTunes/iCoud infrastructure. But a friend put a couple of pictures on there, and I wanted them on my other computer. I figured I could just do share, and then email to myself. Or something. I just wanted the damn files. But it was giving me all sorts of trouble and frustrating me.

Of course, the easy thing to do was just plug the ****ing thing into my computer, and that worked fine. It's funny how when you go so long without using cords, you ignore the most obvious solution. And, in fairness, if I had set it up with my Google Drive account, I bet that would have made things easier as well. So mainly me being an idiot.
