When they reference "the same suit they used in Superman Returns" I wonder if it's a Clark Kent kind of suit, or a Superman kind of suit.

In a way I think he's unappreciative of having the notoriety being in the Superman universe. His comments of him saying he doesn't to wear the Supes uniform, and would decline a movie offer if it presented itself.

keg in kc 09-21-2010 02:21 PM

Considering that Dead Cain is pretty much the only guy who's acted as Superman who hasn't died in some horrible way, I think I can understand the reticence.

Saw a snippet that they wrote Chloe into a Superman comic, which is sort of cool; she was the only character not from the comics so, since she wasn't part of the backstory, I always had the sinking feeling they were gonna kill her off.

keg in kc 09-24-2010 10:46 PM

I thought she was only a part-timer this season, I was a little surprised to see her name in the opening credits.

It did occur to me tonight how strange it is that the show has involved into the Superman and Green Arrow show, but it doesn't seem to bother anybody. At least it eventually evolved away from Clark and his friends dealing with the meteor freak of the week.

007 09-24-2010 10:49 PM

Ep was OK. They also threw in an extra slot of commercials. at least it seemed like it.

I really don't like them bringing Pa Kent back into the picture though. I know it is only for 2 eps but still.

Both that and the dream sequence in the beginning were weird, I thought. There was one other moment that I thought really odd, but I can't remember what it was. Which is sad, since it was only like 4 hours ago.

It was a pretty forgettable episode really. Sure hope the rest of the season is better than that.

You might be thinking of the point that Chloe put the mask on.

He has the suit, whether he wears it or not before the finale is still in question.

(My guess is "not", that he spends the year 'earning the right')

Though I do agree with you to an extent, Smallville was never about Superman. It was about Clark.

Yeah I know. I was just hoping the series would've eventually turned into him being Superman. The series, for me just my opinion, has been like a cock tease. Just me though, it's not a bad series I would just prefer to see Superman saving people instead of going to high school.

007 09-25-2010 02:34 PM

Considering they have gone into the 10th season, it is really pushing it now. I would assume the he will probably have the suit on at the end of the finale. Still don't know how they will incorporate the glasses as his disguise though considering everybody knows what he looks like now.

Nice. Have they chosen who's going to play Superman?

No, they haven't even named a director yet.

Personally, I hope they stick with Brandon Routh. I thought he was perfect in Superman Returns, not the problem with that flick at all. Although maybe he's too old now to carry a trilogy (think he's 32 or so).

I'm told they have begun meeting with a short list of directors for the job of directing Superman, the picture which will be financed by Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures. On the list: Unstoppable's Tony Scott, Let Me In director Matt Reeves, Battle: Los Angeles helmer Jonathan Liebesman (who just got the Warner Bros/Legendary job of directing Clash of the Titans 2), Duncan Jones, who just directed Source Code, and Sucker Punch helmer Zack Snyder.
And I could swear I remember a story from June or July where Jonathan Nolan was out of the running but I haven't been able to dig anything up, so maybe that's just my imagination.

Maybe if smallville wasnt horrible for the past 4+ years they could be proud about making ten years..

More Superman director hunt news, might as well throw it here:
Quote:

Aronofsky in, Affleck out ofthe running to direct the new Superman movie at Warner Bros.

The derby to helm the Christopher Nolan-produced Man of Steel pic has become the talk of the town. Nolan is knee-deep in the selection process, and he and producer/wife Emma Thomas will be heavily involved in the movie, so he's looking for a director who is able to handle the elaborate production and willing to collaborate.

Word began to leak last week of directors who were meeting or will meet with Nolan and Warner brass for the relaunch of one of Hollywood's biggest franchises. Duncan Jones (“Moon”), Jonathan Liebesman ("Battle: Los Angeles"), Matt Reeves (“Cloverfield,” this Friday’s “Let Me In”), Tony Scott and Zack Snyder are on the list.

And so was Affleck, who is extremely popular at Warners after making “The Town,” a critical and box-office hit. But according to insiders, the actor-director -- who, ironically, once portrayed the actor who played Superman on TV in "Hollywoodland" -- met about "Superman" last week but is no
longer pursuing it.

Aronofsky, riding high on buzz generated by his upcoming “Black Swan,” is still in active talks, according to sources. But it's early.

If he were to get the gig, there would be some irony: A decade ago, Aronofsky was attached to direct a Batman movie loosely based on a storyline written by Frank Miller. That didn't happen, and it paved the way for Nolan to direct "Batman Begins."

Back on track... just watched the first episode and didn't really get it. Why did Chloe trade herself for Oliver Queen, and why would whoever holding him want Chloe instead? Why did Lois, after finally finding out who Clark was, suddenly bug out at the end of the episode? Chloe has some badass reputation in the hacker world, maybe there is an angle there? Having said that, I was led to believe that Oliver was snagged by minions of Apokolips, so I don't know what the G-Man looking dude was that was working over Oliver was all about. And yeah, I don't get the Lois angle, especially since now she knows for sure that Clark is "The Blur" (worst hero name evah, btw).

SCOOP: Zack Snyder Directing 'Superman'
By MIKE FLEMING Monday October 4, 2010 @ 2:49pm PDT

UPDATE & EXCLUSIVE: I just spoke with Zack Snyder, who confirms that as soon as he completes post on Sucker Punch, he'll move right into Warner Bros' long awaited next Man of Steel movie in development with Chris Nolan and David Goyer. "I've been a big fan of the character for a long time, he's definitely the king of all superheroes, he's the one," Snyder, who directed Watchmen and 300, told me. "It's early yet, but I can tell you that what David and Chris have done with the story so far definitely has given me a great insight into a way to make him feel modern. I've always felt he was kind of awesome. I'll finish Sucker Punch and get right at it."

EXCLUSIVE: Zack Snyder has been chosen to direct the new installment of Superman for Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures. Snyder was on a short list of directors that I recently revealed met with the studio as well as producers Chris Nolan and Emma Thomas. Other choices at the time included helmers Tony Scott, Matt Reeves, Jonathan Liebesman, and Duncan Jones. I think Snyder is an inspired choice. He is a cornerstone filmmaker for Warner Bros., a visual stylist whose efforts for the studio include 300, Watchmen, and the upcoming Sucker Punch. Deadline revealed back on February 9 that the DC Comics stalwart Superman became a priority project when Nolan agreed to godfather it. He and David S. Goyer hatched the story and Goyer wrote the script. The new Superman's producers also include Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder while co-financer Legendary Pictures' Thomas Tull will serve as executive producer. I'm sure there will be hot debate on Snyder as the choice, but judging from 300, you can be sure the Man of Steel will have an inspired six-pack.

Bowser 10-05-2010 10:59 AM

Cool. I like the choice not because of what he did with 300, but with what he did with Watchmen.

007 10-05-2010 03:57 PM

I didn't like 300 or Watchmen at all so this doesn't really sound like good news to me.

still curious to see how they address Clarks dual identity since he obviously can't just throw on a pair of glasses now.

JD10367 10-10-2010 09:16 AM

I like the choice of Snyder. I loved "Watchmen" and "300" and even "Legend of the Guardians" is basically "300 with animated owls". :)

Here's the thing about Snyder: he's not afraid to get down-and-dirty. He shows not only the human side of his characters (their frailties, their bad decisions, their egos) he also shows the blood and the aftereffects. This is what I'd like to see, especially where Superman is concerned. Sure, the last film was a bit too "emo", but I liked seeing Routh showing more sides to the character... otherwise, what IS the character? The Superman as we know him from comics and cartoons is basically an emotion-less caricature like Dick Tracy. And I like the way "Smallville" explores how the character struggled with growing up, having human parents, having human issues such as love and figuring out his direction, having to deal with his real father, etc.,. Hopefully Snyder will basically take that kind of stuff and translate it to an adult Superman. Think about it: if you were almost omnipotent, how WOULD you rationalize the things you did, keep away from the temptation of overusing your powers for your own purposes or crossing the moral line the way some of the characters in "Watchmen" did?
