Dwayne Bowe: I’m going to lead league in catches and touchdowns

The Chiefs have made several moves to bolster the league’s lowest-scoring offense and one holdover from that team believes the payoff will be a handsome one for him and one of his teammates.

Wide receiver Dwayne Bowe thinks that he’ll benefit from quarterback Alex Smith’s arrival and he thinks running back Jamaal Charles is going to find a lot of success running behind an offensive line that has added Eric Fisher at right tackle.

(Jamaal Charles) is going to lead the league in rushing this year and I’m going to lead the league in receptions and touchdowns,” Bowe said, via Adam Teicher of the Kansas City Star. “When we get in full gear and pads and close to the season, it’s going to be a show to watch.”

There’s a good chance that winds up as an overly optimistic prediction, but Bowe has every reason to be excited about the changes to the offense in Kansas City this season. Smith is the best quarterback he’s played with in the NFL and Bowe should be an excellent fit in Andy Reid’s offensive scheme. That might explain why General Manager John Dorsey said he thought Bowe was poised to become one of the best receivers in the league.

That leap would be plenty for Bowe next season, even if someone else winds up with more catches and/or touchdowns.

The full interview is hilarious to listen to. You can tell the new regime is allowing Bowe to be looser and more Bowe-like when he speaks to the media.

I would not be surprised to see Bowe put up close to a 1000 yards, but with fewer receptions than he had last season.

I think Jamaal will approach 2500 total yards in rushing and receiving, but I don't think he'll lead the league in rushing.

Seems like these type of statements tend to go quite poorly in terms of panning out.

Well he did lead the league in TD's among WR's in 2010 when he had 15 from Matt Cassel, so it's not like he's never done this before.

I like his confidence.

Players coming off 2-14 seasons need to show it on the field before they start making insane statements.

Good. He is clearly fired up and excited over the new regime, and the new QB. That's what I want out of my star players. I want them excited, and hungry, and ready to go prove it. It's infectious, and outstanding for the entire locker room. This is nothing but good IMO.

If you look at it from Bowe's shoes... it's a big difference.

Say what you want about Alex Smith, but he's better than Cassel, Quinn, Thigpen, Croyle, and Huard. That's pretty much the list of QB's Bowe has played with right?

Well, both did have concussions that finished their playing days in San Francisco (Smith got to continue here and Young retired). Smith also had the Catch III as Young had Catch II. Both Young and Smith played for the Niners and Utah teams (though Alex Smith is not a Mormon). Both are smart (Young graduated from law school after NFL).

I heard a clip on 610 today of him. He was talking to a female reporter (Karen Kornacki, I assume.) and referred to Andy Reid as "Big Red".

She asked who came up with that nickname, and he said, "I just made it up for you, mama."

It was hilarious. Bowe was feeling his oats today.

Count me as one of the four...I think the Chiefs will be awesome this year. I can't wait to see them play; they are going to surprise just about everyone. I know a lot of folks just hate the Alex Smith trade, and at first I was pretty bummed about it, but now I think he will be a great fit in Reid's offense. I think our O will be unstoppable this year; no, I don't think it will be a quick strike offense that puts up a bazillion points, but I do think it will be methodical and more than just "effective."

Yeah, Bowe is going to lead the league in receptions and TDs; I think that is actually a distinct possibility with an accurate and cerebral QB under center. Jamaal leading the league in rushing? Sure, why not? He will have a monster line in front of him and D's will have to respect our passing game giving him room to run.

We're not just going to destroy people this year, we will break their will.

Um, when did Reid acquire all this magic upside?

Well at least someone in KC likes Alex Smith.

When Bowe was fussing over his contract, a LOT of SF fans were hoping the 49ers could bring him out there. AT THE TIME, Bowe was seen as a #1 and Crabtree a #2. Personally, I believe Bowe is more explosive than Crabtree. MC is an ideal possession receiver with only slightly above average speed. He is not a deep threat against any decent secondary.

I was one of them. Happy as hell they got boldin. Crabtree can assume his role that he is better suited for, a second receiver.

Alex Smiths best ability as a quarterback is taking sacks over and over mercilessly so he doesn't turn the ball over trying to get yards downfield.

Bowe might be 20th in yardage but he should have a shot at leading in receptions.

I love how so many posters continue to shit all over Alex Smith, and while DBowe's prediction is a bit crazy considering the Chiefs record in previous years, its not out of reach.

Bowe has never even played with just an adequate QB. Plus in the past couple of years Bowe was on the sideline a lot during drives for no apparent reason.

I expect good things, and I want to see the DBowe show return to Arrowhead.
