During my last trip to California, I noticed that there is some kind of detector (I think) about every mile on the highways. I've searched for a picture of what I'm talking/asking about, but can't find one. Each location seems to be identical, and includes a solar package and a white box thing that is pointing down toward the road. And, no, the white box does not appear to be a camera.

Californian CP'ers, have you seen these and do you know what they are, please?

Other than the white box thing pointing at the roadway and a solar package, there really isn't much else to add. Both are on free-standing poles, however.

That was my first guess and I've not been on a CA highway in some time.

I saw them driving through N. California and I have no idea what they were.

These aren't cameras. And, they are on the interstates (about every mile) not intersections.

I have a pretty good guess what they are, but I'm looking for confirmation.

I'll pay attention tonight when I'm driving home, but they may not have them in SD County.
