Yep. There are a couple of local places that are allegedly better, but I haven't tried them.

Oh, and **** that New York crap.

Gino's East.

But I must admit, to this day I still have naughty thoughts from time to time about that rectangular school pizza.

I don't know, but it would definitely be some place where they put the pepperoni on top of the cheese instead of underneath it.

If you're not Italian, get the **** out of this thread. :harumph: I really love eating pizza.

I had some pizza in Rome a few years ago... it was good, but Gino's is better. :p

There's a lot of pretty good pizza in the Des Moines area.

In Ankeny, Wig and Pen and Leaning Tower are both good.

Felix and Oscars makes a great pan pizza.

Chuck's, Sconovacca's, Fong, Big Tomato...

There really is a lot of good pizza here. I'd be hard pressed to name a best.

Yep.
The Chili Cheese Dog from Big Tomato and the Crab Rangoon from Fong's are incredible.

I could understand that, I actually think that pizza has been perfected in the United States.

Shakespeare's "Masterpiece" pizza is pretty much the best pie on the planet. I also like Canadian Bacon and Pineapple. Plus it's a cool place to hang out right across the street from J-School at Mizzou.

My ultimate preference for pizza is New York style. Neopolitan style is pretty great too.

But I definitely eat more Midwest style pizza and Chicago style pizza than anything else. My favorite Midwest style pie is from Shakespeare's in CoMo.

For Chicago style? My favorite is certainly Pequod's. I've had basically all of the relevant Chicago stuffed and/or deep-dish pizzas, and Pequod's is superior.

Heh...G&D in Columbia. We used to call it "Goat and Dog." They also served dirt cheap steaks. You could get a small steak, potato and lettuce salad for like six bucks back in the 1980s.

Heh. My dad told me that story ages ago. However, this is at their pizza joint on Stadium and Broadway(?), not the old steak location. Good stuff!

Oh, yeah, I didn't mean to imply they didn't. Last time I was there, which was several years ago, the old location by the ol' Kmart was still open, but they only did the steak menu. The newer location on Stadium does both.

When I was in NYC a couple of years ago, I was disappointed that I couldn't eat there. I am more of deep dish fan but it would have been cool to try "real" New York pizza.

When I was a kid, my favorite pizza place was Gallucci's over on the coast. They had amazing pizza. Unfortunately, they pretty much sucked the last couple of times I ate there.

When we were eating pizza regularly, it was almost always Papa Murphy's. Their Gourmet Vegetarian was excellent, though, with the white sauce, not really "pizza" in my book.

Now, I only eat pizza we make at home. :(

Lou Malnati's in Chicago was pretty darn good
