BIGGEST DISSAPPOINTMENT????

Offense

Defense

Special (Olympic) Teams

el borracho 09-30-2004 10:46 PM

Offense by a mile. Defense has been improving. Special teams have been good (not great). Offense has not been getting it done.

Mr. Laz 09-30-2004 10:46 PM

offense...

you have to have expectations to be disappointed and who could have any kind of high expectation for this year's defense?

although i think "coaching" might be up there on this dissappointment list too.

Offense hands down. This squad led the leauge last year in scoring. This year they can't do squat.

Defense we knew we were used to looking really bad, we don't look as bad as last year and they are improving. What concerns me is that the D could be our strong suit in another couple of weeks.

ST who in their right mind would kick to Dante after what he did last season. I noticed Shanahan had a different mindset this year. Cheek and Tynes are doing fine. (well Cheek was and hopefully will be back again after the Bye).

I have generally been satisfied. :)

Now that I'm done being an ass...

I can't see how you would say anything other than Defense. Yes, the offense has slowed down since last season but given the fact that Morton/Kennison/Boerigchter were all injured during camp, you had to expect a bit of a slow start there... and that's where your defense HAS TO step up and make some stops. Instead, those guys made Quentin Griffin a week 1 All-Star... and in his next two games combined, he hasn't yet matched the rushing yards that he put up against your defense.

Obviously, I don't have a horse in this race but if I did, I'd be more pissed off at the defense than the offense.

If the offense was they it was last year we would be 3-0 easily this season.

That's OK, we still have 9 more losses to go before we match your total losses from last season. And I'm thinking that by the time we play your boys, the D will be working well enough to get the job done.

Even a texans fan can admit they got lucky last week.

I guess you haven't been watching the games, then. Sadly, I have.

Our offense has DIED. Our offensive line is not opening holes for Priest or affording Green decent protection. They're getting shoved around. That hasn't happened for a long time. Our wide receivers are questionable AT BEST - Boe's gone, Morton sucks, Kennison's hurt, Dante's a midget, Smith was ineffective and cut, Parker's hurt, and Horn is little more than a rookie. We have no deep threat. Stack the line, double Gonzo, and suddenly, we look like shit.

I don't know exact numbers, but I'm willing to bet we've had more stalled drives in the first three games of 2004 than we did in the first half of the season last year.

The defense looked like crap against Denver, but little by little, every day removed from Knobinson, it's getting a bit better. But they still have talent issues and simply can't compensate for the offense falling on its ass.

And special teams - what's special? Coverage sucks ass, I think playing regularly on offense is already taking a toll on Hall.

Overall, I'd say the defense is probably doing more to help us than either other unit.

AND THAT'S fuckING SAD.

:cuss:

Heck, Pastor, I don't care if you match our losses from last year. I just want you to tank enough to miss the playoffs.

By the way - I do hope that you had a happy Birthday.

Actually, I've seen every game. Thus far, the Chiefs and Raiders haven't played in the same time slot. Since I live in Omaha, there's a pretty sizeable Chief fanbase... meaning that my sports bar put the Chiefies up on the big screen.

I agree that your offense hasn't looked good... but I'm just saying that holding them up to last year's standard is a bit too optimistic when you knew going in that your receivers were banged up. Still - generally speaking your offense has been able to move the ball... which would be great if your defense could make an ocassional stop. While they looked better in week 3, they're still not making that one critical stop in games that could seal the deal for your offense.

I just feel that your offense - for as much as it hasn't been setting the world on fire - has been playing well enough that there's no reason you should be 0-3 right now.

You put up 24 points in week 1 - THAT SHOULD BE ENOUGH TO WIN!
You put up 21 points in week 3 - THAT SHOULD BE ENOUGH TO WIN!

... if your defense can play a reasonably good game. So far, they haven't, which is why I'm saying that I see them as the bigger disappointment.

Added into that, of course, is the faith that the front office showed these defensive players, which is going completely unrewarded. When you field the defense you did last year and the front office says, "We know you guys can do better if we put you in a better scheme"... and then you DON'T do better, well... that's a hell of a disappointment.

And, please, understand that I'm not talking shit here. That's honestly the way I'd look at it.

It was a good BDay.

I'm not worried yet about missing the playoffs. When Oakland and Denver are the two teams we have to beat, we could lose 8-9 games and still get in.

Well then, by all means lose 9 games and let me know how that works out for you! :)

I'm not saying the defense is good. I'm saying it's improved from last year and slowly getting better. At least they're getting the occasional stop. But they are still getting burned on 3rd down way too much, and like last year, if the outcome of the game is put on their narrow shoulders, they cave.

As for the games we played, the first one was at Denver, the toughest road environment in football. The second was against a Super Bowl team.

The third - well, it's hard to defend them losing to the fucking Texans, but that game basically came down to one single mistake that resulted in a 101 yard TD return and a 14 point swing.

I'm not trying to make excuses. We suck, and we have to get better in EVERY phase of the game. And yes, I agree something should have been done about WR talent and wasn't. But I don't think anyone expected the offense to be so fucking bad.

As as for the points we've put up - 28 (I think) of those points have been the result of defensive scores, turnovers deep in enemy territory or, in that Denver game, a pure gift from the officials. The offense just ain't getting it done.

Bob Dole 09-30-2004 11:56 PM

Biggest disappointment?

Where is the "people who don't put their money where their mouth is" option?
