My Favorite Draft Time Buzz Word
"Hips"....."Not real fluid in the hips"..."a little tight in the hips"
Good lord are we talking about football players or bedroom frolics? I mean seriously, either a player gets to the spot needed to make the play or they don't. Who cares if they look fluid or stiff in the hips if they get there.... The "hips" thing has become my favorite because none of them know what the hell they are talking about but by using he "hips" analogy they feel like that is the needed commentary to set them apart from Joe Couch Potato. |
It's intended to indicate how well a player can turn and run with someone in coverage.

I know what it is intended for however it doesn't matter if the cat is running sideways or backwards as long as he is in coverage where he needs to be....That being said I could put together film of a 1000 players "hip" action and there would be absolutely no consistency between those they claim that have good "hip" action or poor "hip" action. The only correlation would be those that have good balance of quickness, speed and instincts get where they need to be and the others don't. It doesn't have $hit to do with "hips"....unless they need a replacement. |
It's called.....balance.
A player that is not fluid in their hips has a tendency to become unbalanced in their motions, which causes stumbles, lost steps, out of position, etc. etc... |
