In a case surely set to redefine weirdness, a Russian astrologer is going to sue Nasa (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) for wrecking her horoscope. ABC News reports: “A Russian astrologist who says Nasa has altered her horoscope by crashing a spacecraft into a comet is suing the US space agency for damages of $300-m (about R2-bn).” The case is based on Nasa’s Deep Impact mission, which involved hurling a washing-machine-sized spaceship through the galaxy to hit a Joburg-CBD-sized comet, Tempel 1. This is less arbitrary than it sounds – scientists wanted to see what is inside the comet, and thus, somehow, solve the mystery of the origins of the universe. But despite Nasa’s high-falutin intentions, astrologer Marina Bai is a little upset, because: “It is obvious that elements of the comet's orbit, and correspondingly the ephemeris, will change after the explosion, which interferes with my astrology work and distorts my horoscope.” So much for that tall, dark stranger in Bai’s future…

If she's using comets in her horoscopes, she must be the greatest physicist of all time. Altering minutely the orbit of one comet in the whole of the solar system is going to have zero effect. You'd have an easier time trying to prove that people jumping up and down has changed the orbit of the earth.
