Just saw the play against the Steelers and Browns where the steelers tackled the punter.

The signals that followed were unmistakeable.

Can they tackle the punter if he is just standing there after the punt?

I didn't see the play. Was it a tackle, or was he hit as was standing around during the return? If he was just hit, it would just be a block on the return. If tackled, then it's holding.

if that is the same play that I saw, then yes they can do what they did Pam...as long as the ball is in play, he can be blocked... tho I would think they Steelers would be better served to not dedicate 2 players to knocking down the punter

I think they are headed for a meltdown all their own. Maybe Cowher will come to greener pastures. It is clear he has lost direction to his team.

I would have never thought any member of his team would be that way.

Thanks for the lesson guys. I thought they would be flagged for roughing the punter.

once the ball leaves his foot,(actually after it is fielded, as it was) he is just another player on the field, not a kicker... I don't know if Cowher would be a good fit for the Chiefs tho..he is another defensive coach and the Steelers haven't been the same since they lost Chan Gailey...he is an inspirational leader, but seems to be losing that rah rah attitude with his players

Yeah, he defenitely threw the bird not just once, but twice. Wonder if D Miller will have anything to say on tomorrow night. The play was legal and all, but pretty cheap. Those guys must feel pretty proud of themselves. http://www.ChiefsPlanet.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

Do you think there will be some sort of a fine for that?<BR>

redngold 09-17-2000 09:48 PM

It wouldn't surprise me to see the kicker get fined. I imagine he didn't care at the time and never will. I am surprised that there wasn't any retaliation from the other bigger Browns players.
