Say goodbye to Corey Simon

(Aug. 30, 2005) -- Free agent defensive tackle Corey Simon is now on the clock. And he is not expected to be on the clock long.

Simon's agents said they spoke with eight teams, including the Colts, Giants, Bengals, Packers, Bills and Seahawks.
The Colts' interest is intriguing on many fronts. Indianapolis head coach Tony Dungy would be able to deploy Simon in much the same way he used Warren Sapp in Tampa Bay. But the question becomes whether the cap-strapped Colts can afford Simon, who rejected a $12 million signing bonus from the Ravens during the offseason.

Simon is seeking enough money that the Ravens, who once really wanted Simon, admitted they will be unable to pay him what he wants now. And so Simon, who was released by the team, is seeking the best offer and best situation before deciding where to play.

A decision should be made by early next week, but to date no visits were scheduled. And none might be. Numbers will do the talking here, and Simon is vowing to be ready to play in the regular-season opener -- wherever that is.

We may have a chance at Warrick or Price if they will work for the vet minimum. /or else we are what we are for the season.

The other article that Joe Seahawk posted said the Seahags, Chiefs, and some other team were the only ones who had contacted Simon.

Why the fuck would we want to bring in other people's cast offs? I guess I just don't understand some people's need to bring in as many FAs as possible, expecially mediocre ones. We already have enough 2nd tier players.

Apparently the Seahawks are bringing in Warrick tomorrow. return guy I guess..

The Numbers Game
Things may get very interesting for the Seahawks over the next 24 hours as Peter Warrick, the former Cincinnati Bengals receiver, is on his way to Kirkland for a physical after being released by the Bengals Tuesday.

Warrick, 28, averaged 63 catches and nearly 700 yards his first four seasons with the Bengals, and nearly 10 yards a punt return. But last season he played in only four games due to a knee injury, and that’s what the Seahawks medical staff will look at very closely on Wednesday. The primary interest appears to be as a kick-returner, but if he’s healthy, the 5-11, 180-pound Warrick is an electrifying player and could be a factor as a wide receiver as well. A consensus All-American as a junior and senior at Florida State, he also has a degree in political science.

Oh please. Like you've never been to a garage sale before and bought anything. :p

I know a certain cast off from the Ravens a few years back that seemed to do much better than expected.

Wallcrawler 08-31-2005 12:31 AM

Corey Simon is one helluva castoff.

chief99 08-31-2005 12:47 AM

I bet he signs with a bad team.

They always do. Rings don't matter . $$$ does.

Ah, the Chiefs fan free agency cycle.

-good player we can't pay gets cut
-fans have a coniption
-someone else signs them
-fans have a coniption

Simon is stoned if he thinks any team has 12 million to give him at this point in the year. I just don't see it happening.

I haven't seen any serious talk from Chiefs camp about the guy. I think KC's interest is on the level of "he'd be nice to have" rather than "let's find out what it will take to get him".

It would be nice to have him, but I just don't think the team has the money.

Signing bonus can be amortized across many seasons. Pony up the f%&ing cah and get the deal done.
