NFL Matchup

Is on ESPN right now... right after the current commercial break they're going to have a segment on the Chiefs' D. Just a heads up for anybody that wants to tune in real quick...

Sweet...

Rausch 09-18-2005 01:35 AM

Jaws is such a Chiefs homer.

This is pretty pathetic that I am asking this, but here goes. Any summary?

Rausch 09-18-2005 01:37 AM

HA! Spotlight on Kris Wilson blocking on the 35 yard run by LJ for the TD.

Pretty much the Raiders inability to cover with LB's and Safeties and how Gonzo should have mansechs with them.

The two and three TE sets (great blockers) can eat them up as well.

Raiders LB's and Safeties suck....

recap for the slow pokes?

Jaws said the D had great discipline... called Gun to tell him that, joked about how Gun was all about downplaying it and getting ready for Raider week.

The defensive clip they showed was the play where Knight blitzed and hit Pennington from behind/forced the fumble. They first showed Surtain's intelligence in coverage, and how he had no over the top help, Wesley was helping out deep on the left side. Then he showed how Key Fox and Knight blitzed on the right side, and how disciplined Fox was of making sure the Jets' LT blocked him inside, giving Knight a better angle for the the sack/strip. Really praised the "discipline" of the blitz packages, how one guy doing something set up somebody else being able to do another thing, a defense working in unison.

Merril Hoge talked about the Raiders, how they (especially their safeties) couldn't defend Pats' TE Ben Watson to save their life, and the first thing he thought was the Chiefs have to be drooling over this matchup. Then Jaws said the Chiefs have a big advantage here because they have three TE's, and all of them can block. He showed the tape of LJ's 35 yard TD run. How it was a 3 TE package, and how effectively all three TE's blocked (especially Dunn and Wilson) and Larry Johnson could walk untouched to the endzone. Pretty good stuff.

Cool beans. Try to catch it tonight but I doubt it. Judging by the time I won't wake up until the games start tommrow either.

Thanks TK.

Good to see the super bowl blueprint is back...

Miles 09-18-2005 02:12 AM

Thanks for the heads up. Didn't even notice that we were using 3 TE sets.

I didn't notice that on that play at first either, because Wilson and Dunn were split out left like WR's... I believe it was Dunn that motioned in closer to left tackle, Wilson stayed out there where the slot WR would be. They both buried their defender though.

Gah! Boner!

You're wrong.

I was told Wilson can't block for $#it. Scolded even...

Take on the game from FoxSports:

Sure, Kerry Collins and Randy Moss are going to hook up for some touchdowns this season. But Norv Turner and coordinator Rob Ryan forgot to put the "D" in Oaklan. The Warren Sapp-led defensive line applies zero pressure, and the defensive backs got burnt so badly against New England that the team trainer is stocking up on aloe plants.

The Chiefs defense pitched a near shutout last week, but they were aided by a Jets team that handled the ball as if it had just fallen out of a diaper pail. The Raiderz won't fumble and bumble the way the Jets did, and Kansas City's top cornerback may not be available to cover Moss as Patrick Surtain suffered a concussion last week.

Put it all together, and 5150 isn't just an old Van Halen album — it's the likely final score of this game.
