Here's the reason...

"We are not extending the telecast to more markets because we want to adhere as closely as possible to the spirit of our longstanding policy not to conflict with high school and college football during their seasons (which means Friday night and Saturday)," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said"

Complete Bullshit.

Should at least be on Sunday Ticket.

recxjake 10-20-2005 04:50 PM

I saw this quote about an hour ago but I didn't post it to keep from adding to the chaos, but there's a link to it for anyone interested.

Um. Then WHY SCHEDULE the game for Friday? Wow. How about adhering to your multi-billion dollar agreement with DirectTV and CBS?

runnercyclist 10-20-2005 05:02 PM

Just idiotic

Calcountry 10-20-2005 05:07 PM

Fug the NFL.

I get that, but if I choose to pay for it (ala the NFL Sunday Ticket), shouldn't that preempt the antitrust issues.

Hammock Parties 10-20-2005 05:18 PM

They should have moved the game to Atlanta. Assholes.

Here is what I sent, probably won't do any good:

Mr. Aielo,

I read your following quote:

"We are not extending the telecast to more markets because we want to adhere as closely as possible to the spirit of our longstanding policy not to conflict with high school and college football during their seasons (which means Friday night and Saturday),"

I am very disappointed by this. I (over)pay $200 a year for NFL Sunday Ticket from DirecTV because I am a Chiefs fan that lives in Illinois. I pay for this service because I am led to believe I will be able to watch ALL Chiefs games. I understand the hurricane is a special circumstance, so I feel that you should make an exception to your policy to accommodate Chiefs fans who don’t live in Kansas City as well as Dolphin fans who don’t live in Miami (or those who have evacuated). When it was a New York Giants away game that had to be moved, they got an extra home game. Why was this precedent not followed for this game? Ask yourself honestly, if this was the New England Patriots or Philadelphia Eagles, would you still be sticking to your policy? I highly doubt it.

Thank you and Go Chiefs (even though I won’t be able to watch them)

Here's mine:

"We are not extending the telecast to more markets because we want to adhere as closely as possible to the spirit of our longstanding policy not to conflict with high school and college football during their seasons (which means Friday night and Saturday)," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said.

Mr. Aiello,

My understanding is that the long standing policy you speak of is tied to potential anti-trust issues. I commend the NFL for wanting to support and advance high school and college football. However, if I as a patron make the choice that I would prefer to see an NFL game and have or am willing to pay for it (i.e. the DirecTV NFL Sunday Ticket), shouldn't that end the anti-trust issue. I agree with not showing the game for free in markets outside of the participating teams, but to not allow fans outside of those markets who have paid to see those games doesn't seem fair. Can you help me understand that?

I am a Chiefs fan living in Austin, TX and have purchased the NFL Sunday Game Ticket for 3 years so that I can see each Chiefs game as it unfolds. In fact, I only purchased DirecTV because of the ability to see the Chiefs games. I don't think it is unrealistic for me to believe that my $200/year subscription to the NFL Sunday Game Ticket and my monthly DirecTV payment pays for a portion of the $2 billion that DirecTV paid to get the NFL games. This decision makes me feel ripped off.
Again, can you help me understand?

Very nice.

I just called him a butt licking ass wipe.

RINGLEADER 10-20-2005 05:29 PM

Monopolies at work...at least if you could get Sunday Ticket via cable I could threaten to cancel Direct TV...

Spott 10-20-2005 05:33 PM

I'm glad I never payed for DirectTV. What a load of crap. I will never buy that crappy satellite service.

Not my best effort, but here is what I sent him:

I have been a Chiefs fan since 1969. I now live in Chicagoland and have been a Direct TV subscriber for at least 7 years. The only reason I pay for this service is to watch my team, The Kansas City Chiefs. I paid for the Super Fan package this year, in order to watch them in HD. Now, due to the hurricane, I will not be able to watch the game this week. I could care less about High School or Local College Football, I want to watch the Chiefs. I would even put up with Sterling Sharpe, if this game were to be televised. I fail to understand, with the NFL Sunday ticket, and the NFL channel why the fans can not be satisfied here.
