The Donkeys and Schadenfreude
 

Whenever it comes up in conversation, I always mention that my SECOND favorite team is whoever is playing the Broncos. That answer gets a variety of often hilarious responses. But in recent years, I thought that my hatred for the orange and blue had faded somewhat....since Elway's departure.

That was until yesterday....:D

I tuned into the last quarter of the Giants and Donks yesterday: I cannot describe the unmitigated and utterly joyful glee I felt when Eli threw the TD to Toomer. It was absolute and complete happiness. It actually felt better than our victory over Miami...okay, well, almost. Is that sick, or what? :)

To derive such fabulous joy and giddiness from the misery of others would seem a bit, 'unnatural'---wouldn't you say?

I suspect a Chief's win over SD this weekend, coupled with an Eagle victory over the Donks would top it--but it's hard to imagine at this point. I hope I get the opportunity to find out.

I jumped up and cheered just like if the Chiefs had won.

Then I realized that although the Broncos lost, they weren't "beaten." So my joy was instantly muted.

When I came upstairs, my wife asked: "Didn't the Chief's beat Miami on Friday? What are you whooping about?" I said, "Because Eli is a 'playmaker' and Plummer isn't.....heh. The Donks just got beat in the last seconds." She just shook her head.

I came home early from the bar yesterday and found my entire in-law family watching the Broncos on DTV. They are all broncos fans.

I quietly slinked down to my office in the basement, turned on the TV, and watched the choke job ensue. To resist temptation, I didn't come back upstairs until they had all left.

In my Rainmancentric world, the Broncos are only working toward one goal: to stand between me and happiness. They exist for no other reason than to be a villain. Therefore, it's only natural to be thrilled when they lose.

Bet you never knew you had that kind of self restraint, didya? :D

To add to my joy, I get all of the NY papers and get to revel in the Donk's misery. Plus I can still remember the Giants beating them in '98 when they came in 13-0. Nothing better than Shanaran spitting the bit.

Yep it was sweet to watch the last 7 minutes as the donxs 'got beat'.
