What's your instrument?

How do you express yourself musically?

I owned a banjo for about a year. My life became too busy to learn the instrument. Saw Bela Fleck in concert twice and the Kruger Bros. once. incredible. Cool instrument.

I've played guitar since the summer after my seventh grade year... So that would have been '93... That makes it 13 years this summer. I now teach guitar at Rick's Music in Manhattan, and I have a pretty decent sized debt several thousands I have spent on my gear:

Laney VC-50 combo amp: ~ 700.00
Gibson J-60 Custom Acoustic: ~ 3K (got it for much less)
Beurgious "Sean Watkins" signature Acoustic: ~ 3K
Fender Strat american standard: ~ 600.00
Ibanez S470FM: ~ 400.00
Ibanez crappy classical: ~ 75.00
16 channel digital multitracker (that I've never sat down to figure out): ~ 700.00
Monitors (for the damned mixer): ~ 150.00

Now, if I ever get a chance to sit down and mess with that recorder, I'll be a damned star.

My Primary instrument is my Tenor Saxophone. While in college I got to where I was proficient on Trumpet, Euphonium and Clarinet, oh and of course all the saxes. I was passable on Flute. Never went near the strings or percussion.

I never learned to play...which I regret deeply because I love music so much. But I have born a bass, a bassist, and now an aspiring drummer. All three of my kids are incredibly musically inclined.

got my first drumkit in the summer of '86

NewChief 01-21-2006 09:30 AM

I've got a banjo, but I haven't played it much in a long time. Picked it up the other day, was tuning it, and a tuning peg broke. So I gotta replace that. I'm thinking about starting up again, but it's not high on my list of priorities.

I also have a few hand drums, but I mainly just played around with those in drum circles back in my deadhead days.

Started playing electric guitar at 13- this year will make 37 years I've been playing. Played 5 years in a late-70's metal power trio, then 5 years on tour in an 80's hair metal band, then 5 years in a power pop band that almost signed to Warner Bros. Currently splitting time between playing in a weekend cover band and my church's worship band. Will be going 24 track hard disk digital recording studio in my basement later this year to write and record a Christian rock project to shop to that genre's labels.

Current equipment:
1976 Gibson Flying V
1991 Jackson Dinky Reverse(outfitted with a Roland MIDI pickup)
BOSS ME-10 FX pedal
Roland GR-09 synth floor module
Marshall half stack
Roland D-50 keyboard
Software includes SoundForge, Cakewalk, Logic Pro, Pro Tools, and Cubase

Just for fun- I put together a tribute website for my hair metal band. Lotsa pics, streaming video of the band live, newsletters, etc. Knock yourself out! The ARTIST Tribute website

In Middle Scool I played the Trumpet and Baritone. I almost bought a Guitar in High Schoo, but never did. I wish that I would have learned to play the Piano. I still plan on trying to learn to play the Piano. My wife plays the Skin Flute.

htismaqe 01-21-2006 11:43 AM

I play guitar and sing. But I couldn't select both.
