Trade scenario for Javon Walker

So I was thinking, if KC really wanted to try and get a playmaker WR, w/out sacrificing our chances at drafting multiple defensive prospects on Day1, what possibilities might exist?

KC has, allegedly, over $9M in cap room, plenty of room for our rookie contracts, and a couple big name signings, i.e. Walker and LJ. That does assume that Lamar/Carl are at all willing to open up the cash vault for the signing bonuses, which certainly isn't a sure thing. But anyway, the salary cap wiggle room is there.

So, referring to the Draft Value Chart:

KC 1st round pick (#20) = 850
GB 2nd round pick (#36) = 540

... for a difference of 310, equivalent to #59 overall in the 2nd, 5 picks after our 2nd round pick.

So in effect, if we were to trade out of 20, down to Green Bay's 2nd round position #36, we've given up just a bit under the equivalent of our 2nd round pick. And we've held onto 3 total picks in Day 1. With Javon coming off an ACL injury, it's possible we might get a later round pick back from the Pack, perhaps to make the trade equivalent to a 3rd round pick value, without actually giving up that pick.

Summarizing, KC gets a still young (albeit rehabbing) playmaker at WR, and maintains the following Day1 picks by Round.Overall_Pick (with my wish list selections):

2.36 - DE Tamba Hali, Penn State
2.54 - S Ko Simpson, South Carolina or S Pat Watkins, Florida State or CB (if somebody slides, such as Richard Marshall, Fresno State)
3.85 - DT Claude Wroten, LSU

no takers?

Could be pretty good, depends on if we can get Hali or not. I'd prefer other players over him, but he as to be there if we go back.

I have read that Jared Allen's contract is up at the end of the season. They will try & get him re-signed before that

who's gonna be making these trade arrangements?

I'll do it!

I'm not a huge Walker fan, he really sounds like a whiney biatch to me. But the kid can play. And this is all just BS trade chart crap anyway. Killin time until saturday.

With realsitic trade scenarios in mind, i'd rather have Charles Grant.

If there's any other DL out there that's a realistic trade option, i'd rather have him, too.

seems like it's time for a bump

Walker to visit Saints, Broncos

By Michael Smith
ESPN.com

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Javon Walker has received permission from the team to explore trade opportunities and a deal is expected before this weekend's NFL draft, league sources with direct knowledge of the situation said.

Walker is visiting the New Orleans Saints on Thursday and is scheduled to visit the Denver Broncos on Friday.

The Packers are also engaging in trade talks with the Kansas City Chiefs, Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles but conversations aren't as far along as they are with the Saints and Broncos. Walker does not have any visits scheduled beyond the Saints and Broncos.

Walker, who underwent surgery in October on his right knee's injured anterior cruciate ligament, expects to be ready to go by training camp -- just not with the Packers, he hopes.

Unlike last year when he drew the ire of Brett Favre among others, he promises not to be a disruption, because he doesn't plan to show up at all for training camp.

"If I had to go back there, I'd retire," he told ESPN.com last month. "I don't have to play."

General manager Ted Thompson has said he expects Walker to honor his contract.

"I've spoken with Javon over the course of the spring," Thompson said. "I think I'll let the original statement that we put out stand there. I know that things get said from time to time and I think the less said on something like that, the better."

Thompson did say that he and the team would welcome Walker back.

"I would," Thompson said. "I'm sure the team would. He's very well liked here. I assume you guys would agree with me."

I could see one of those 2007 draft pick scenarios for Walker. Offer a 3rd, that could be bumped up to a 2nd, that could be bumped up to a 1st, based on meeting certain goals.

I think Miami had on just like this for Rickey Williams a few years ago. With Walker being injured last season, I definately would not give up anything this draft.

Not even a move down only, no picks? He was injured week 1 last year. While he may not come out of the gates at full speed this year, he could finish there!

BigChiefFan 04-27-2006 12:26 PM

He's a great talent, but I don't want to see us give up our 1st rounder for him. If they would take a 3rd or less, we should definitely consider it.

Coogs 04-27-2006 12:27 PM

And, if we wind up having a crappy season this next year, and it looks like we would have a high #1 in next years draft, I would make certain Walker did not meet those goals.

Which would be all the more reason to go with the 2007 draft pick scenario.

coryt,

Sorry, I missed your trade down thing at the top. There is a thread about this in the Lounge, and I thought I was in that one. Your deal wouldn't be bad I guess.
