Will Svitek NFLE
Today was NOT one of Will’s better days in NFL Europe. Will’s Frankfurt Galaxy team played against the Cologne Centurions. Aarion Dixon and Eddie Freeman play for Cologne so it was an interesting game to watch. Will Svitek gave up a sack and had a motion penalty early in the game. He had a minor altercation with Eddie Freeman that had both players standing helmet to helmet and jawing. Do not know who started it but both players were going for the other’s helmet. Visions of Eddie Freeman’s helmet assault of John Tait came to mind. Nothing came of it and no penalty was called on either player. Will Svitek also had a costly holding penalty later in the game.
Most of the game Svitek played against a 6’ 3” 260 lb, Otis Grigsby from the Carolina Panthers/Kentucky. Otis has been the first defensive end in NFL Europe that has not been pushed around by Svitek. They battled back and forth throughout the day. Otis ended up with 6 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, a PD, and a sack. Svitek was not responsible for all of that, but he had his share. On the PD, Svitek tried to drop and do a roll block on Grigsby. The QB double pumped and the DE by that time avoided Svitek’s block and was able to get in the air and knock the pass down. Maybe that was not Will’s fault because it was supposed to be a quick pass. The sack was a “look out” block by Svitek. He did not make a very good block and the defensive end went around him to get to the QB.
Maybe Svitek was having a bad day, but I was a little disappointed because I am hoping that Svitek can become a good backup left tackle for next season.
Eddie Freeman had 5 tackles and a sack. Aarion Dixon had 4 tackles and a sack.
