When interviewed, he said drop back quarterbacks were a thing of the past, the future of the n.f.l. lay in mobile quarterbacks like himself and vince young. the reason he didn't workout at the combines was that the powers that be wanted him to try out at wide receiver, and he said he was a quarterback or nothing.

He is going to be Joe Hamilton, if he is lucky.

The reason it really outlandish was he didn't say "pocket quarterbacks". He said "Peyton Manning and Tom Brady are a thing of the past the future is guys like me".

How many mobile QB's have won Super bowls compared to Pocket passers?

Elway? Sorry.

Young.

Young's mobility was overrated compared to this crop of running back / QB / option QBs.

Bottomline for a QB you have to be smart, make quick / right choices with the ball and be accurate. The rest is really pretty meaningless.

I suppose, but I'd certainly say he was mobile.

I have 2 words to say about mobile QBs: Jake. Plummer.

Mr. Laz 05-01-2006 10:31 AM

Young was VERY quick, and his speed is far from overrated compared to any other QB, current or past.

I agree with your second statement.

Man, they say this stuff ALL THE TIME.

They said it when Randall Cunningham came out, they said it when Vick came out, and now they'll say it with Young. And it's never true. Why?

Cunningham broke his leg. Vick has spent how much time on IR?

Look, a MOBILE QB is a good thing; they can buy time for receivers to clear coverage. See Elway, and later in his career Steve Young-hell, Rich Gannon anyone?. A RUNNING QB is NOT a good thing-I don't care how fast you are, you're not as fast as a pass downfield, and those hits pile up. Vick is gonna have to change his game somewhat or he'll never survive a full season.

You must read defenses and deliver the ball quickly and accurately to the correct receiver downfield to be successful. If you cannot, defenses will stack the line and put a bullseye on your chest.

When a QB takes off running on a pass play, his teammates are in poor position to help him; offensive linemen are backpedalling to create a pocket and receivers are downfield with their backs turned.

No, you've got to use your brain and your arm to be successful in the NFL.

Chris
