Could Shields be next?
Does anyone think that Roaf retiring will make Shields rethink his decision to come back and that he could retire sometime during training camp too? I sure as hell hope it doesn't happen, but since Roaf was a key component in getting Shields to come back, and the appeal of making a run at the Super Bowl, if those 2 things have changed in Shields mind, could he follow suit?

Shields will be here this year. He's gone for 2007.

Probably, I mean, where's his motivation at now? Sorry to see this for you guys, good luck maybe picking up some camp casulties. Here's to scanning the waiver wire. Aye yi yi.. |
Roaf has had hamstring problems this entire offseason, and THAT's why he's retiring. I'm sure I'll catch hell for this, but I'm almost glad he called it quits now so that we can get someone else some experience over there instead of getting hurt in the first (or second?) game like last year.
Shields on the other hand hasn't had any health issues that I've heard about. I would seriously doubt he'd call it quits this close to the season just cuz Big Willie's gone. |

He's had bad back problems for the last several years. His body is breaking down and that is a main reason why he too was considering retiring. It was Roaf who talked him out of it. |
I seriously doubt that this is breaking news to Shields. Roaf made this decision weeks ago, I bet he and Shields talked at some point.
So if you assume Shields already knew and he's in camp anyway, he's not going anywhere for '06. |
