Herm Edwards Chiefs

Its been well talked about how Mike Shanahan scripts the first 12 to15 plays. A couple of things here, do any of you recall Herm Edwards
talking about this for the Chiefs this season? Then going back to
the Chiefs win over the donks, do you think the rat scripted plays for
the out going plumber?

I'm really curious if any of you recall Edawrds and Solari taking about
scripting plays.

Mr. Laz 11-30-2006 11:36 AM

what do Herm and Solari have to script?

we run about 12 plays total

playbook = script :p

Thats true. I guess I was wondering if you've heard any interviews
or read any articles or blogs about this.

Here's a dumb question I don't ever remember hearing the answer to (and this goes back to the 80s when Bill Walsh scripted 49er plays):

Do they run 10-12-15 plays regardless of how they turn out, or do they construct a flow chart? In other words, if a reverse results in a loss of 10 yards, or a 2nd and 9 pass falls incomplete, do they run the next short-yardage play regardless, or do they have a "If Play No. 7 fails, proceed to Play No. 8b"?

my understanding is that Bill walsh ran the scripted plays without regard to down and distance.

he wanted them in order and "as is" because it was designed to show how the defense would react and adapt to the plays and in that order.

then throughout the game, he would use that knowledge to exploit the defensive tendencies.

basically sacrifice the 1st couple of drives to maximize the rest of the game.

don't know if all the other copycats are as dedicated to it's pure form.

I've wonder'd that exact same thing.

So if play 1 went for a touch down, would Walsh have gone for two since he lives by this flow chart?
