WELLINGTON (Reuters) - Deep in the heart of rural New Zealand, a few cows are producing a super-frothy milk to the delight of the cafe set -- and the surprise of the dairy industry.

Variations in milk have not always made it easy for latte or cappuccino drinkers to get the frothy frill they expect with their coffee.

Scientists have been working on the problem, but now around 1500 cows on seven farms in remote Owhangao in the central North Island have been found to naturally produce frothy milk all year round.

``There's definitely something in the grass,'' King Country Milk Manager Les Graham said in a statement.
What do cows in New Zealand have to do with anything?

Mark M [BornChiefs] 09-29-2000 12:09 PM

I'll bet cows have something to do with the
"HAY hawaii..." vs Hey, you.....as an intellectual might prefer.

Maybe I've just got cold feat. http://www.ChiefsPlanet.com/ubb/smile.gif

Nothing like a little interdivisional love to stoke the fires.

I think I'll stay above the fray. Doing so is symbolic of where the Broncos will be at the end of the year-- on top and watching the Chiefs and Faiduhs fighting for the Wildcard.

Well, nice frothy cows just sounded so yummy! And I thot that since there was one slamfest going on in another thread started by the same guy there didn't need to be another one here...

So I livened up your day with cow trivia...

Mark M [BornChiefs] 09-29-2000 01:17 PM

I heard about the cows on the radio this morning. i think I'm good on cow trivia though...I own 50 of the feed guzzlers.

AustinChief 09-29-2000 01:24 PM

Did you see the story on "Real TV" where the cows saved their New Zealand farmer from a crazed bull?

Seems the bull attacked the farmer, knocked him down, crushed one lung, bashed in his cheekbone, and broke his arm. Then the cows, whom the farmer feeds by hand himself each morning, pushed the bull out of the way and surrounded him.

It is supposedly a true story. If so, do you think the cows were that aware? Would you call it self-interest? Or were they taking bets on how long he would live?!

Mark M [BornChiefs] 09-29-2000 01:26 PM

you know, I haven't heard that story but I do have a good cow wreck story of my own if you wanna hear?

say the word and I'll tell

AustinChief 09-29-2000 01:30 PM

do tell! I love good cow stories... and bad ones too!

"the word"

chiefsnathan 09-29-2000 01:38 PM

I got my jaw broke by a calf when I was 12. We were branding/dehorning/castrating when the little bugger got me.

Mark M [BornChiefs] 09-29-2000 01:39 PM

the great cow wreck

the summer before i left for college..1991...we had a heifer(1st time calver) in a lot and had to pull the calf(too big)...my dad, mom and I pulled the calf...everything was fine...we loosened the rope tying the cow to a pole and gave about 15'of slack so she could tend the mother duties.....cow goes nuts, stomps calf viciously, mom jumps in(foolishly) and grabs the calf(money was very tight, calve worth $300)...she falls backward...cow has room in rope...stomps her, breaks leg 4" above knee, leg turns back, cow still stomping her head and torso....(so fast you couldn' imagine)..i runover and grab cow by head and dad cuts rope(cow couldn't get past her,and was doing quite a number)...cow picks me up..runs head first into building..i fall to ground...cow stomps my chest 5 visible times, head and back...looks at me with satisfaction and trots off....

mom broke leg, hoof size cut accross forehead,a nd multiple bruises.

me...9" cut across stomoch at bottom of rib line, broken ribs and several cuts(nail under my back did a number)

calf-broken leg....vet fixed while we were in hospital...still have her..good cow now..

mama cow....sale barn....neighbor 1/4 mile away bought on accident...hamburger...meat is good..

family learned valuable lesson and appreciate each other much much more...you never know what can happen in 10 seconds that will change your life.

alanm 09-29-2000 01:41 PM

Drew-

Under those conditions, I would do my best to break your jaw, too.
