"dunking" the ball or the end of the Lambou leap?

September 28, 2000

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Reacting to San Francisco receiver Terrell Owens' antics last week in Dallas, the NFL has broadened its rules on taunting, FOXSports.com reported Thursday.

Jerry Seeman, the league's senior director of officiating, told FOXSports.com that any pose an individual strikes -- regardless of whether its directed at the opposing player or bench -- will be considered taunting and result in a 15-yard penalty and fine.

``What we have advised is, effective immediately, if the officials detect a pose, it will be called taunting,'' Seeman said. ``This is independent of which way the pose is directed.''

After both of Owens' touchdowns Sunday in the 49ers' 41-24 victory at Texas Stadium, the receiver sprinted to midfield and celebrated on the Cowboys' star logo. His second trip to midfield sparked the ire of Cowboys safety George Teague, who leveled Owens.

On Monday, 49ers coach Steve Mariucci suspended Owens for a game and fined him a week's salary. <BR>

Does this mean the end of the Pile High Salute as well http://www.ChiefsPlanet.com/ubb/smile.gif

BTW, It is Gonzo who does the dunk (grin).

"pose?"
as in..."come on vogue...make your body move to the"....'uhem'...sorry bout that

I dont care what the players can do after they score. As long as I ,the fan, can smile like a cat eating poop and pee-pee in my pants after a 4th quarter pass to the end-zone resulting in a Chiefs victory.

Seriously though...at this rate, 5 years from now anyone who scores a touchdown will have to immediately put their hands by thier sides a look straight ahead as they calmly walk towards the sideline. Any violaters will have to report to the Pete Stoyanovich Celebration Camp.

Looks like the "No Fun League" is at it again...the Owens thing was way out of line, and, sure, they're supposed to act like professionals. But c'mon, let the guys have fun...I wonder if a dunk is considered a "pose". I guess Gonz will find out when he scores againt the SeaBags...

I guess it is a good thing we don't have spidey and micky mouse any more.

If the officails follow through to the letter of this rule, this effects more than Owens-like taunting.

The new Rams move is a pose, Cris Carter, pointing to the sky is a pose, a player knelling down in prayer after a TD is a pose. This is frickin ridiculous!!!

What if a player AT HOME scores a TD, throws his arms up facing the end zone HOME CROWD? Is this a taunting pose, too?

Geez, I expect to see a bunch of flags this weekend.... http://www.ChiefsPlanet.com/ubb/frown.gif

I do understand the taunting thing and not allowing that, but an endzone celebration by one player, dunking, dancing, spiking, saluting or leaping should not be included...now the multiplayer celebrations should be banned... http://www.ChiefsPlanet.com/ubb/confused.gif

Did anyone catch "Inside the NFL" last night...they did a story on endzone celebrations...

I'm sorry,,but if I just managed to plaw my way through a full line of Defencive line men,and came out with my body parts all still functioning,,while at the same time scoring for my team,,,,then fine away, cause by the time I was done the whole freaking stadium would be doing the "Macaraina" with me!!!

Duck Dog 09-29-2000 11:08 AM

At least we won't have to see the pile high salute any more!!!

AustinChief 09-29-2000 11:26 AM

Dumb overreaction to the 49ers...

Another bad call refs!!!!!

Duck Dog 09-29-2000 11:29 PM

On a bright note we won't have to see that stupid horse anymore either!!!

This new rule is pathetic. I agree that what Owens did was wrong (although since I hate Dallas I did chuckle over it a bit). I equate it to Smith doing his homerun swing in Arrowhead against the Chiefs, and I will always detest him for it. Blatant taunting should draw a foul - stuff like the foregoing examples, Princess Dion prancing down the sidelines, etc. But interject a little COMMON SENSE into the rule!

Of course, who could expect common sense from a referee?

Pam, Do you remember Warpaint?

shakesthecat 09-30-2000 07:34 AM

What the hell does this have to do with Tony Richardson?

Duck Dog 09-30-2000 01:16 PM

KCRed,

I mistakenly thought that it was T-Rich that dunked the ball.

Stevie Ray, No I don't remember War Paint?????????
