Clark Hunt: Whatcha' All Think ???

When I see pictures of this man, I see someone who is very quiet... Kind of the --- kid in the corner look... He doesn't look very outspoken, and you know what they say about the quiet people ------- watch out !!!

I think --- at least hope --- Lamar taught him the important things in running a franchise... I'm sure Clark was running alot more of this team in the last year or so than Lamar...

I'm not concerned about his relationship with Carl, cause we all know Carl isn't going anywhere... Neither is Herm... Clark being what --- 42 years old --- is no dummy... He's seen Carl rake in the money for alot of years...

But; on the other hand -- hopefully Clark is more involved in winning championships rather than expanding his bankroll... Money will come --- with the titles... Hopefully he will realize this...

Good luck Clark --- make your daddy proud !!!

I will just say from 2nd hand knowledge that Clark has been itching for a chance to make his own mark in the league. He realizes the large shadow his father casts on NFL greatness and don't be surprised to see him loosen the purse strings and shake things up FO or otherwise to make his own path.

You can take the info for what its worth, but given my info, I'm happily anticipating to see what unfolds.

Clark Hunt has taken on an even greater role in overseeing the Hunt family’s long-standing interest in the Kansas City Chiefs football franchise in recent years. He is entering his second season as the franchise’s Chairman of the Board after holding the post of the Vice Chairman from 2001-04. The 41-year-old Hunt negotiated a four-year contract extension with President Carl Peterson in 2005, helping to solidify the day-to-day leadership of the franchise for the foreseeable future.

He also represents the family at board and NFL meetings, as well as team management sessions. At the league level, Hunt serves on the Board of Trustees of the Bert Bell/Pete Rozelle NFL Player Retirement Plan, the NFL Player Second Career Savings Plan, the NFL Player Supplemental/Disability Plan and the NFL Player Annuity Program. In addition, Hunt has been actively involved in the continuing efforts to implement a long-term solution to the many issues surrounding Arrowhead Stadium in order to ensure that the Chiefs and their fans may continue to enjoy one of the NFL’s foremost football facilities in Kansas City for years to come.

Hunt is also a founding investor-operator in Major League Soccer, which includes the 2000 MLS Champion Kansas City Wizards. In that role, Hunt has served as chairman of the 11-year old league’s Finance Committee and is a member of the league’s Labor Committee and Board of Governors. He also has chaired the MLS Competition Committee since the league’s inception, helping design and implement all facets of the league’s rules of competition. In 2004, he took on additional duties as a member of the MLS Television Committee and became co-chairman of the Technical Committee in 2005.

In addition to his responsibilities with the family’s sports franchises, Hunt serves as Chief Executive Officer of Shoreline, Inc. Through Shoreline, Hunt provides advisory services to a diverse group of companies in the financial services industries. He began his business career as an analyst with Goldman Sachs & Company in New York and later moved to the firm’s Los Angeles office.

Hunt graduated first in his class at Southern Methodist University in ‘87, earning a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance. He was a two-time recipient of the university’s highest academic accolade, the Provost Award for Outstanding Scholar. During his collegiate athletic career he was a four-year letterman on the Mustangs nationally-ranked soccer squad, earning first-team Academic All-America honors as a junior and senior and serving as a Tri-Captain his final season. He continued his involvement with SMU by serving as a member of the school’s 21st Century Council from 1995-03. He was named the SMU Cox School of Business Outstanding Young Alumni in 2004 and in 2005 he was appointed to the Cox School Executive Board.

I don't know him well enough to pass any judgments, but the fact that he's younger I would anticipate he'd be willing to take greater risks.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see him fire Peterson and get "his" inherited franchise off on "his" foot while remaining true to his father's vision. He's been around the NFL long enough to know who's who and what he wants.

If he doesn't remove Peterson, then I at least envision him being a lot more tighter on Peterson than his father was. I certainly don't expect him to resign Peterson.

Does anyone think Carl might just drop the GM role and move to President/CEO on his on will ??? Wouldn't he still "make" good money instead of doing all the work "making" the money ???

Anyong Bluth 12-20-2006 09:54 PM

While I won't say he will push Peterson out, b/c the fact is the guy is genius. You don't fire a 2 time NFL Exec of the Year. In my times dealing with Carl, the guy is completely standup and one of the straight shooters in terms of dealing with NFL front offices. He gets neg rep from KC media, but the guy could care less b/c he has the ultimate respect from his collegues and the NFL in general.

He will most likely shake up those evaluate talent, spend on FA signings on a year to year basis as opposed to the on off BS we've had, and I know he is MUCH MUCH hungrier to get his own hardware. Its all and good to be a Hunt in the NFL, but he wants this place not only an also ran with alot of roots in the AFL / NFL lore and being boasted as the "best stadium / fans / tailgate/ etc..." He's not gonna go Jerry Jones style or Snyder style.

If I had to liken him to anyone, I'd say he fits more in line with Bowlen. Wants a winner- will pay for it, and expects his teams to be modeled after as the apex of NFL franchises.

Carl is great at the BIDNESS side of things, from what I've heard from locals in KC, he's a grade A prick.

But I'm from Joplin, and we might have a looser definition of prick.

I find it hard to believe he gets the "ultimate respect" from his colleagues as typically in life those that get the "ultimate respect" are generally those who are not only good stand up people but also successful at the highest level such as Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, Mario Lemueix, Bill Parcells etc....Peterson hasn't won squat despite being giving more years and opportunity to do so than probably any GM in NFL history that wasn't related to the owner by blood. Being very average to below average professionally isn't going to command ultimate respect from many. They might all respect him that way on a personal level as I have no clue how they feel but I do know human nature and professional arena's and his resume would garner more chuckles than glowing respect.

WTF hes a rich guy with 350 pound play toys..money will be first..after that who knows...

Anyong Bluth 12-21-2006 01:33 AM

Naptown,

Next time you deal with any NFL front offices and agents by all means tell me how. Going off my personal day to day dealings with those that work for the NFL, every team's front office, and all but about 5% of the NFL's players agents, I will tell you that while CP may not be "baby jesus" he is well respected and liked.

The "bidz-ness" may not be as Jerry McGuire / fairy tale as you may like, and I'm sorry that what’s reported in the media by beat reporters and columnists isn't all daisies, but I would vouch for the man's competence as an NFL exec. any AND every day of the week.

Just b/c we've suffered through a shit streak of not making it and a run of heartbreak playoff-wise does not mean the guy isn't more than qualified. People around here act as if he has carte blanch to do as he pleases, not so.

Clark has been incharge for 2 years
and for 2 years there has been more trades/FA pick ups than usual
or at least it seems that way

Anyong Bluth 12-21-2006 01:57 AM

Clark has been acting in behalf of for a few years, but in no means was acting general. I expect much different going forward.

If true, that's freaking great to hear.

I am sure the other NFL execs and coaches do love the guy. He manages a team that no other team has to worry about when it comes to being to competitive

What happens on the football field is very point-in-time. Financially successful franchise are long-term investements.

Carl is EXTREMELY popular with NFL execs and professionals because he embodies what the sport is all about - MONEY.
