The facts:
Picked Marty- Excellent choice.:clap: But lets see what he has done since we won a playoff game 12 years ago.

Picked Gunter -
Could have had - Bill Bellicheck, Andy Reid and Mike Holgreen

Picked Vermiel - Could have had Herm or Marty

Picked Herm-
Could have had- Payton?

You decide. Good, fair, poor

Gunther was the only bad choice in my eyes. Talk about making a desicion that was basically "business as usual"

Jury is still out on Herm. Im willing to give him at least 2 seasons.

Problem is, since Marty left, 2 of the hires have been Carls little yes men, and I am guessing DV was more like a father figure for Carl.

But Gunther and Herm are totally yes men, they were safe hires, preventing any controversy or questioning of Carls free agents, drafts and signings....

I am not going to make any decision about Hermie at this point either.

However, I didn't like any of the hires at the time they were hired, including Hermie, and nothing any of the first three did made me feel that I was wrong about my initial reaction to those hires.

I'm hoping that Hermie does.

I'm glad to see you gentlemen giving Herm the benefit of the doubt. It once again proves how thoughtful, fair, and honorable ChiefsPlanet members can be when the chips fall out of the bag.

I, however, have seen enough of Herm to realize that he is a liar and a blowhard. He handles himself like an insecure, unassured bonehead clinging to what he thinks will work the last time he checked. Personally, I think he should check a little more often on whatever the hell it is that he checks on because it appears that the last time he checked on anything was about 15 years ago.

I hope he changes my mind because I'd love to see the Chiefs make the playoffs in my lifetime, but so far I haven't seen anything on the field that demonstrates he was worth the pick we gave up for him.

Did anybody actually expect us to be better than 9-7 with an aging offense, the loss of Willie Roaf, the loss of Al Saunders, and with Gunther of our D-Coordinator?

RE the Gunther hire, While I'm not sure about Reid, I know Bellichik was No 1 on Carl's shortlist, but he declined to be interviewed for the position because he wanted to stay on the east coast (and at the time he was in line to be the Jets next head coach) and Holmgren was looking for a job giving him total control, which would not have been possible with Carl. The choice I wanted at the time was Billick, but he had gotten too far along in the interview process by the time MArty announced his resignation and so he was pretty much locked in on the Ravens.

The rest of the choices I think were fair enough when they were made. Vermeil, he had just built a Super Bowl team with the No 1 offense and No 6 defense so how could you argue with that. Herm, jury is still out but I don't think he was a bad choice. Remember, he was hired to rebuild this team, as all we heard about all offseason is how old we were and how we needed to get younger...

I'm not going to do the 20/20 thing. I'll rate them as I honestly saw them going in:

a) Marty - good

b) Gunter - wait and see ( = bad)

c) Vermeil - good

d) Herm - wait and see (= bad)

Is a Chiefs playoff berth worth my left nut? I think so. I can still reproduce and screw chicks as a one nutted man.

It's a misconception that we missed out on that trio because Marty waited too late to tell King Carl he was leaving.

According to Soren Petro Marty held his press conference on January 11th of that year.

yeah, Belichek wasnt coming to KC... he had his mistress close on the East Coast that he was banging.

I'm gonna hate Herm till January 2, 2007 and morph into a HermBacker. HermBackers seem to have more fun cause reality isn't an issue for them.

Till then I'm with you. After that you will move into the openly negative category. I'll check what I checked to see if its been checked after I check.

50/50 loved the Marty and Dick choices, hated the Gunther pick and I am leaning that way on Herm.
